November 10th 2016 Haddon Primary School Principal s Report Our year 5 & 6 camp was enjoyed by staff and students and I am delighted with the feedback from teachers as to the excellent behaviour of students. When representing our school we strive for respectful and responsive students. In Canberra there is a need for attentive and cooperative behaviour and these characteristics were clearly demonstrated and as such we are very proud. Well done! We have a handful of weeks left of this extremely busy year. Teachers are currently engaged in testing and moderating work to prepare student reports for the end of the year. These reports will be handed out on our last formal day of the school year. Friday the 16 th of December and our final assembly will be held at 2.45 in the hall. On Monday the 19 th we will be hosting our school clean up. On this day students will be working on sorting through classrooms assisting with room preparation for 2017 and a big effort in our yard. This will be a casual clothes day and students will be dismissed at 3.30.There will be no formal classes on this day. Parent /Teacher/ Student interviews will be held on the first day of February. These interviews or, as many refer to three way conversations, provide an opportunity for parent, students and teachers to set some personal goals and gain insight into expectations. We have seen that this provides a strong sense of understanding moving into the school year. Times for the interviews will be enclosed in the school reports. Our year of Tiqbiz has been positive. The sending through student absences has been an excellent service for parents and freed up the phone conversation for our office staff on hectic mornings. Newsletters are being sent through Tiqbiz but parents may request a paper copy from the office. It would appear that the shopping tour was very successful and a lot of fun. A big thank you to Kelly Anderson for all her effort and to her helpers. Prizes were sourced from many local businesses and I would like to thank all of them as well. It would appear that this small band of shoppers managed to outspend our 2015 team. There is more information regarding the trip in the newsletter. Year 5 and 6 students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. The rebate was taken off the overall cost of the camp for students.
