Our Lady and St. Gerard s Primary School Newsletter Shakespeare Week On Wednesday, the Sky Blue Theatre Company visited school to work with Key Stage 2. In the morning, Year 3 and 4 enjoyed a wonderful production of Midsummer Night s Dream. Then in the afternoon, Year 5 and 6 took part in a lively version of The Tempest. The children were the main characters and had to perform the plays for their classmates. In class, the children had been working on the storyline and this helped them to take part and answer lots of questions. Well done! Car Parking It has been brought to our attention that some parents are parking on the pavements on St Gerrard s Road, leaving very little room for people with prams to pass. On occasion, parents have had to walk their children in the road as they have been unable to pass parked cars with their prams. We would like to politely ask that you are mindful of pedestrians and local residents when parking around school to drop off or pick up your children. Please do not obstruct driveways, dropped kerbs and pavements when parking on the roads around school and drive carefully when in the vicinity of the school. Reception Maths Morning Thank you to all the parents who came along to see our Reception children in their maths lesson on Thursday morning. The children enjoyed showing off their maths skills in a wide variety of activities. Thank you for the invitation to join in. I really enjoyed seeing the children learning and helping. It s very helpful to come to the class lessons to pick up ideas for home. I picked up a lot of creative ideas. I always enjoy these sessions, thank you.

Reminder about School Uniform We would like to remind parents that all children are expected to wear full school uniform at all times. Please see the school website for further information. Children need to wear a suitable pair of black school shoes no trainers or ankle boots should be worn. Girls are expected to wear a grey school skirt or pinafore dress-trousers are not part of the girl s uniform. They are permitted to wear grey tights or white socks with their skirt/pinafore. It is important that children do not wear jewellery in school, for health and safety reasons. A basic watch is permitted and earrings need to be small, round, plain, gold or silver studs. No gems or jewels are permitted in the earring. Your child will be expected to remove their own earrings for PE lessons-covering them with plasters is not permitted. It is also important that your child has their PE kit in school at all times-pe days sometimes change or extra PE sessions sometimes take place. PE kit consists of blue shorts, white T-shirt and black pumps. Trainers are not suitable for indoor PE. Collective Worship Well done to the Reception children, who prepared their own collective worship for their parents to come and share with them. They had worked very hard and it was lovely to see them keeping those less fortunate than themselves in their prayers. Easter Bingo Reminder: Friday 29th March is Mufti-Day. The children are invited to wear their own clothes (no football shirts) in return for a prize for the Easter Bingo. The Easter Bingo is on Monday 1st April-doors open at 6:30pm, eyes down 7pm.

Mission Together Lenten Appeal Our chosen Lenten charity has been introduced to the children and they are very excited at the prospect of helping the children they have been hearing about. This year, we are supporting the Mission Together charity, who aim to provide each child in developing nations with an education. Each class will be completing their own fundraising activity-further details will be available once the children have decided, within their classes, what activities they would like to organise. As a catholic school, we are very proud of the way our children show empathy with those less fortunate than themselves and are always enthusiastic in their support of our charity work. Each child will have brought home a prayer card, which has the Mission Together prayer on it. As a school, we are encouraging all the children and staff to learn the prayer as a demonstration of unity between all nations. They should also have brought home a newsletter which provides more details about the charity and the cause we are supporting. 1.50 would pay for a snack and a drink for one child. 5 could buy stationery for a child. 10 would be enough to give a child a school bag. 50 would pay for a set of school books for the class. Gymnastics Congratulations to the Year 6 Gymnastics Team who won a gold medal in their recent Gymnastics Competition. They received many compliments for their performances, from members of the other teams.
