TIPS FROM THE TOP The Mock Exams commence on Monday, November 27th, 2017 and all of the Kett Team wish you all the very best in your studies. The main things to remember are: You MUST bring all the equipment that you need for each exam (e.g. BLACK pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, calculator, maths instruments). If you don t own all of these, then please get them this weekend! You must NOT bring any notes, mobile phone or any other web-enabled devices into the exam room. If you bring your phone, you will need to leave it in a box as you enter the exam room. This is at your own risk! If you are wearing a watch, you will be asked to take it off and place it on your desk. You must NOT talk to any other students at any time whilst you are in the exam room and must follow all instructions given to you by the invigilators. If you have any questions about your exams that HOUSE RULES Evening Phone Calls: We fully understand that you need to speak to your children before bedtime, but please could you ensure the calls are made prior to their lights out. A number of our students are struggling to get out of bed in time for breakfast roll call and this is having an impact on their academic performance in the day. Thank you for your assistance with this. Y7 lights out at 9.00pm, Y8 at 9.15pm, Y9 at 9.30pm, Y10 at 9.45 & Year 11 at 10pm 2
TIPS FROM THE TOP Coping with exam stress Plan ahead Do Have your own revision timetable start planning well before exams begin. Your teacher should be able to help. Make your books, notes and essays user-friendly. Use headings, highlighting and revision cards, and get tips on other revision techniques from teachers and friends with experience of exams. You could also consider buying revision guides. Take notes of the important points when revising. Try to answer the questions of past exam papers Everyone revises differently. Find out what routine suits you best - alone or with a friend or parent/carer; early morning or late at night; short, sharp bursts or longer sessions; with music or without noise. Ask for help from your teacher/learning mentor, parent/carer or a friend if there are things you don t understand. Don t Don t leave revision to the last minute. Don t avoid revising subjects or topics that you don t like or find difficult. Don t forget that there is life beyond revision and exams. Don t cram ALL night before an exam. 3
G IS FOR GILLESPIE by Charlotte Jennings Why did you become a Resident Fellow? In a year s time I would like to take my Masters in Wildlife Conservation. Additionally, the Kett kids are really nice to work with and the job seems fun. What are your favourite things? I love football and I really like reading. Currently I am reading four futures and it s really interesting. Why did you choose to take Wildlife Conservation? Because I used to like watching wildlife documentaries and I wanted to do something that I enjoyed Where is the best place that you have been to and why? Skiing in the Italian Alps because I love skiing and I would love to go back and do it again. Where do you hope to go in the future? New Zealand, as it has good wildlife jobs and it is also really beautiful. The added bonus is my brother lives there at the movement. What is your favourite animal? A proboscis monkey, as they are funny creatures. Where are you from? South Yorkshire - that s why I have a northern accent! What made you end up in Norfolk? I have extended family that have lived here for 10 years Do you like Norfolk? Norwich is nice but quite a small city but I am used to shopping in Leeds so it is unfair to compare. What is your first impression of Kett? I can t compare it to anything really being my first job. However, everyone in the Kett family get along well and the staff and students are really nice and have helped me settle in a lot. 4
LEST WE FORGET by Piers Jennings Remembrance Day is of huge importance to the school, due to our history. Because of this it is a date that we as cadets practice for, and strive for perfection. We have two sections within our CCF, Army and RAF, both having their own separate drill. Our remembrance parade consists of 2 parades, one being at Wymondham College, and a second being in Wymondham Town. Our main parade, which we practice for, is the second of ours, in Wymondham. This year we took over 32 cadets to the service, which was the greatest number of cadets that we have ever taken to this particular parade. The parade itself was a success, recognising the College s cadet force as well as maintaining the local inks to Wymondham College. Remembrance Day was a somber occasion but we are so privileged to continue to support this annual tribute to the fallen and serving in the U.K. and abroad. 5
JUDO STAR by Sophie Peacock Huge congratulations must go to Oliver in Year 7 who has been selected for regional squad training in judo. Oliver is going to be doing a regional competition in Ipswich over the Christmas holidays. where he will showcase his talents against other competitors Oliver has been doing judo for around about 5 years, and he really enjoys it as a hobby but probably would not like to continue to do it as a professional career. He is on a green belt and by the spring he is predicted to be on the blue Belt. The belt order from lowest belt to the highest is, White, red, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown and then black. The belt tells people what grade you are at judo. Oliver s favorite part of doing judo is knocking people over and he started doing judo when he was in year 2. (Oliver is pictured below with his green belt) if you wish to showcase your talents in the House Newsletter please contact a member of the Marketing Team or see Mr. Casanova-Davies. 6
