Shepherd University: Higher Learning Commission Steering Committee & Process

HLC Steering Committee Purpose and Responsibilities The primary responsibility of the HLC Steering Committee is to guide the assurance argument document and evidence, serving as liaisons, leaders, and resources for the campus and the HLC site visit team of peer reviewers. The HLC Steering Committee is comprised of the President, Vice President of Academic Affairs, HLC Liaison, accreditation process co-chairs, and the five criterion subcommittee co-chairs. Working with campus stakeholders, the HLC Liaison identified key instructors, staff, students and administrators to serve on the Steering Committee and to lead each of the five criterion teams in preparation for the March 2016 site visit. The team leaders consist of members of the deans council and one associate dean. HLC Steering Committee members are charged with these overarching responsibilities: serving in an impartial role representing employees and constituents of the University; helping to promote University-wide participation in the Pathways accreditation process, and in the site visit working with the HLC liaison and co-chairs to develop a communication plan; setting goals and identifying audiences for the assurance argument; addressing any ongoing issues noted in the previous HLC evaluation; developing questions related to the five Criteria for Accreditation to be answered during the pathways process; understanding that the assurance argument must be evaluative as well as descriptive; deciding on evaluative recommendations to include in the report; and transmitting those recommendations to the university community. Term of appointment for Committee Membership: through HLC visit in 2015-2016.
