COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY PROSPECTIVE STUDENT INFORMATION PROGRAM INSTRUCTORS: Terri Parker is the CT Instructor for the CT Program. She received her Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences in 2003 from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, GA. She also holds an Associate of Science in Pre- Med from the Gainesville College in Gainesville, GA and an Associate of Applied Science in Radiography from Gwinnett Technical College in Lawrenceville, GA. Mrs. Parker is registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography and in Computerized Tomography. Prior to joining the faculty at Athens Technical College in 2015, Mrs. Parker worked as the CT Instructor for the CT Program at Gwinnett Technical College and is currently the Director of Radiology Services at Northridge Medical Center in Commerce, GA. She has extensive experience in inpatient/outpatient diagnostic imaging, trauma radiography, computerized tomography and international procedures. Mrs. Parker is originally from Georgia and currently resides in Jackson County. APPLICATION PROCESS: The Computed Tomography program cannot offer admission to all qualified applicants. Program enrollment is limited to a total of 5 students. Only students meeting the minimum requirements will be presented to the admissions committee. Final selection will be made by the admission committee and the 5 applicants with the highest total score will be admitted to the program. Candidates will be ranked using the following criteria: GPA in Radiography program courses, and TEAS-V score. Individual CT Coursework Admissions: Registered radiographers, nuclear medicine technologists, and radiation therapists will be eligible to enroll in individual CT specialist courses to meet the requirements to sit for the ARRT examination at the discretion of the radiography program chair. All applicants must meet Athens Technical College admission requirements prior to individual CT coursework admissions. Students must be enrolled in the Computed Tomography (CT) Specialist Certificate program to be eligible to enroll in RADT 2250 Computed Tomography Clinical Education I and RADT 2265 Computed Tomography Clinical Education II. The CT Registry Review course is offered through the office of Economic Development Services - Continuing Education Programs at ATC. For more information, please contact: Athens Technical College Economic Development Services Continuing Education Programs 706-369-5763 LENGTH OF PROGRAM: After a student has either successfully completed the first year of their radiography program (2.75 GPA or higher) or is currently a registered radiographer, nuclear medicine technologist or radiation therapist, the curriculum can be completed in three consecutive semesters. Program-specific courses are taught in a strict sequence that begins each fall. Students are awarded a Technical College Certificate upon program completion. ACADEMIC RIGOR: Each course in the curriculum is offered only once per year in a very strict course sequence. Currently enrolled Radiography students will take CT specific courses while completing all required Radiography program courses. Many Radiography program students find that to be successful in the program academically they must make a full-time commitment to the both programs. Students are expected to be ACTIVE participants in the learning process. Successful completion requires dedicated, hard-working students who can conduct themselves in a professional manner during the learning process.

GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATION: All didactic courses are offered in online format. The program offers science and technical courses to prepare students to be employed as computed tomography technologists in a variety of settings. During the duration of the program, didactic instruction is used to form a foundation upon which students can rely during the clinical phase of the program. HANDS-ON and CLINICAL EXPERIENCE: In the ATC Computed Tomography program, initial training often utilizes alternative learning methods to allow students the opportunity to become proficient in technical skills prior to performing those skills in the clinical setting. Clinical externships are scheduled at hospitals and clinics in the greater Athens area. Clinical education plays a very significant role in your development as a professional CT technologist. Attendance in clinical rotations is not optional. This means that you will need to plan carefully to avoid clinical absences. Your clinical rotations will occur at a variety of locations and will include some evening and weekend rotations. Unlike traditional college courses, clinical rotations will usually consist of 8-hour shifts. Some questions you should ask yourself include: Do I have dependable transportation? Do I have enough money to cover my gas expense to get to and from clinical? Will my employer be flexible with my clinical education schedule? How reliable is your support structure outside of school? What alternatives do you have for unexpected personal schedule changes? There may be times when you will miss a clinical rotation because of illness, but if you miss too much time you may be required to make that time up, repeat the course, or you may be released from the program. STUDENT HEALTH: After admission to the Computed Tomography program, the following are required by our clinic sites and copies of immunization records must show: Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR): Series of 2 vaccines required or must have a positive antibody titer to demonstrate immunity. TB Skin Test: *Two-step PPD test is required, unless student has a history of annual tests for the previous 2 years. If TB skin test is positive, proof of chest x-ray and INH documentation is required. Hepatitis B Vaccine (or signed Declination form): Requires a series of 3 vaccines, with a subsequent titer to document immunity. (This immunization is recommended, but not required). Varicella (Chicken Pox): Positive Varicella antibody titer or 2 doses of vaccine required; we can no longer accept documented history of chicken pox Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis): Required to be within the last 8 years. Also Required: Current Health and History Exam: This exam should be administered by a qualified health care professional and will reflect the student s competence in all areas of our Technical Performance standards (p. 45 in the Radiography Program Addendum to the Student Handbook). Background check and Drug screen through PreCheck Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification from the American Heart Association Malpractice insurance coverage (paid for in tuition/fees) ETHICAL BEHAVIOR ELIGIBILITY REQUIRMENT: The American registry of radiologic technologists (ARRT) ethical behavior eligibility requirements specify that every applicant for certification must "be a person of good moral character and must not have engaged in conduct that is inconsistent with the ARRT rules of ethics," and they must "agree to comply with the ARRT rules and regulations and the ARRT standards and the ARRT standards of ethics." One issue addressed by the rules of ethics is the conviction of a crime, including a felony, a gross misdemeanor or a misdemeanor, with the sole exception of speeding and parking violations. All alcohol and/or drug related violations must be reported. *Conviction as used in this provision includes a criminal proceeding where the individual enters a plea of guilty or nolo contendere. All potential violations must be investigated by the ARRT in order to determine eligibility. Further information may be found on the ARRT web site in the handbook for computed tomography certification.

Individual clinical sites may prohibit students to rotate through their facilities if a felony conviction is found on the background check, regardless of ARRT ethics board results/investigation. Applicants should be aware of this limitation on certification and clinical site rotation prior to entering the Computed Tomography program. Practice of deceit in the application procedure is cause for dismissal from the program. If you have concerns regarding your eligibility to sit for the ARRT examinations, please contact the ARRT at: The American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists 1255 northland drive St. Paul, MN 55120 (651) 687-0048 www.arrt.org
