AUDLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL Newsletter 20 th November/Autumn 2 Wk 3 Dear Parents, www.audleyprimary.uk @audleyprimary It s all about the Stone Age in Year 3 Fine Class have had a bumper week! First of all they had a whole day curriculum experience on Tuesday led by Portals to the Past. The children were fully immersed in the different hands-on activities. I think you will agree that the photographs say it all. Unfortunately I was unable to be at school to introduce and watch Year 3 s assembly yesterday. I have heard great things about it. Thank you to all the parents who came along to watch. Mrs Rebello had lots of positive things to say and writes: Congratulations to Year 3 on a wonderful, informative assembly on the Stone Age. Dressing up in Stone Age costumes really made the audience feel that they were travelling back through time. I was particularly impressed by the scientific learning on the different types of rocks that were used to build shelters and tools, as well as the creative singing. The children also shared a short video presentation on using place value counters to add 3 digit numbers. Thank you to all the staff and children in Year 3 for their hard work.
A Week in the Warren for Year 6 Year 6 have had a brilliant week at Hindleap Warren. I went down to visit the class on Wednesday with Mrs Simister and joined in with a few activities. I must say, I was very keen to try out the Crate Stack challenge! The children have been brilliant ambassadors for the school. Both Mrs Rebello and Mrs Koumis have been extremely impressed by the children s behaviour. I imagine that they will be absolutely exhausted this weekend and will need plenty of sleep. Thank you to the teaching team, including Mr Mould and Mrs McKenna for staying with the children throughout the week. It s been good to provide regular updates on Twitter. Setting up this account, along with the new school website that we launched back in February, has helped improve communication with parents. The Prevent Duty and Online Safety You may have heard of a new duty which schools must fulfil known as the Prevent Duty. This is the government s initiative to prevent children being drawn into radicalisation and extremism, which all schools are required to uphold. We mainly do this through teaching core values such as tolerance of people from different backgrounds and mutual respect and by providing a safe place for children to discuss controversial issues. There is a new section on our school website about this under Schools on the Prevent Strategy menu with information for parents which you may find interesting. Online safety is an important element of this, as many young people are drawn into extremism via material available online. There is also an Online Safety section which contains useful advice for parents on how to keep your children safe online, including guidance on different mobile and gaming devices. Please do take a look!
Sponsored Skipathon Update Well done everyone! Here is Miss Robinson with an update on the Sponsored Skip as promised in last week s newsletter: On Monday 9 th November the children took part in a sponsored Jump Off to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. The aim of the event was to encourage children to be more active whilst raising money for the British Heart foundation's life-saving work. One in every 180 babies born in the UK has a heart defect and, sadly, every seven minutes someone in the UK dies from a heart attack. With our support, they can drive the fight forward by doing more research, making more discoveries and offering information, support and care to heart patients and their families. We have now collected sponsorship money and we are delighted to announce the total raised was a fantastic 2, 030.30! Thank you to all for your brilliant fundraising and support, and to the staff who also donated 5 each.
