Newsletter 10 September 2015 Volume Seven, Issue Thirteen Week 8 Term 3 Our Vision We at, seek to create a God centred environment where each school community member is nurtured spiritually, academically, socially and physically.

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members, SPORTS CARNIVAL: Once again I would like to thank everyone involved in last week s Sports Carnival. We could not run these events without your help and it was a pleasure to see so many active parents, grandparents and family friends helping out. A huge thank you to each and every one of you. We are especially grateful to Mrs Ripley and Miss McCartney for all the work they put in to make the carnival a success. The winning Faction was MacKillop 1048 points, then Peel on 956 points and Murray on 740 points. We will also organise medals for those students who tied for a position. Congratulations to the following medal recipients: CHAMPION BOY (YEAR 1) RUNNER UP BOY (YEAR 1) 3 rd PLACE BOY (YEAR 1) Nicholas Reid & Ethan Vearing Jack Marriott Jack Reid CHAMPION GIRL (YEAR 1) RUNNER UP GIRL(YEAR 1) 3 rd PLACE GIRL (YEAR 1) Rebel Desai Bella Barr Sienna Stewart CHAMPION BOY (YEAR 2) RUNNER UP BOY (YEAR 2) 3 rd PLACE BOY (YEAR 2) Xavier Morrison Charlie Bowling & Hayden Skwirowski Dale Taylor CHAMPION GIRL (YEAR 2) RUNNER UP GIRL (YEAR 2) 3 rd PLACE GIRL (YEAR 2) Remi Hey Ruby Agnew Shaelie Marsh CHAMPION BOY (YEAR 3) RUNNER UP BOY (YEAR 3) 3 rd PLACE BOY (YEAR 3) Harry King Matthew Morrison Brayden Ruocco CHAMPION GIRL (YEAR 3) RUNNER UP GIRL (YEAR 3) 3 rd PLACE GIRL (YEAR 3) Rani Romeo Kailani Muir Hayley Brown & Billi Buckley CHAMPION BOY (YEAR 4) RUNNER UP BOY (YEAR 4) 3 rd PLACE BOY (YEAR 4) Tadhg Venn Adam Gundry Blake Sims CHAMPION GIRL (YEAR 4) RUNNER UP GIRL (YEAR 4) Makayla Ruocco Aaliyah Hunter & Hannah Vergone CHAMPION BOY (YEAR 5) RUNNER UP BOY (YEAR 5) 3 rd PLACE BOY (YEAR 5) Oscar Jones Will Backshall Thomas Barton CHAMPION GIRL (YEAR 5) RUNNER UP GIRL (YEAR 5) 3 rd PLACE GIRL (YEAR 5) Zoe Rundle Gracy Firkins Amelia Caporaso CHAMPION BOY (YEAR 6) RUNNER UP BOY (YEAR 6) 3 rd PLACE BOY (YEAR 6) Jay White Cole Agnew Mitchell Zadow CHAMPION GIRL (YEAR 6) RUNNER UP GIRL (YEAR 6) 3 rd PLACE GIRL (YEAR 6) Jacinta Harley Ruby-Lee Firkins Sharni Barton UNACCEPTABLE SOCIAL MEDIA USE: Unfortunately it has come to my attention that some parents are voicing concerns regarding bullying and other incidents on social media. Whilst these comments haven t been made on our St Joseph s Parent Facebook page, I am concerned that some of these posts have been inappropriate, offensive and made by some past and present members of our community. These posts contain derogatory and threatening comments about our school and toward some of our current children. Whilst not explicitly named, it is clear that these posts refer to both St Joseph s and the students of St Joseph s. The school policy on bullying defines it as persistent teasing, name calling, physical contact, non-verbal harassment, exclusion or other intimidatory behaviour that distresses an individual and creates within that individual, the expectation of further harassment. Our Information and Communication Technology Use By Students Policy states : When we communicate on the Internet we must always be honest and treat other people kindly. We also list a number of actions which will result in removal of ICT privileges, some of which are: Constitutes racial harassment or incites racial hatred Constitutes harassment or bullying Defamation of a person or an organisation Is discriminatory against a person on the basis of, for example, sex, race, religion, disability or age Page 2

Upon entering St Joseph s Catholic School all parents and /or caregivers sign the following agreement: I/We have read and fully understand and agree that enrolment in a Catholic school means that we and our child will participate fully in all required aspects of the educational program of the school and agree to abide by the policies and directions of the school and the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia as they are enacted from time to time. As members of the St Joseph s Catholic School community, we are all responsible for the culture of our school and the way in which we model respect, common courtesy and considerate behaviour towards others. In short, we are role models for our children and they often mimic the way in which we behave. I sincerely thank you for your understanding and support in this matter. I hope that we can move forward in a positive and collaborative manner for the benefit of all within the St Joseph s Catholic School community. Should you wish to discuss this matter further, my door is always open.
