Objective To provide students of Northwest ISD expanded opportunities to enhance and accelerate their education through dual credit college coursework resulting in an Associate s degree and automatic acceptance into a four-year university in Texas.

What is Dual Credit? College level courses that also meet high school requirements With a passing grade, the student can receive college credit and meet high school course requirements at the same time Courses can be taken at any NCTC campus, online or as a scheduled class at SAHS Core or basic college transferable classes NCTC has been participating in dual credit with Northwest ISD since the early 1990 s

The Benefits of Dual Credit High school students gain insight into the college level learning environment Dual credit students are 2.2 times more likely to enroll in a twoor four-year college Smoother transition into college Dual credit students are 2.0 times more likely to return for a second year of college Head start on basic/core college classes (while meeting high school requirements) Dual Credit students are 1.7 times more likely to complete a college degree Struhl and Vargas, Jobs for the Future, October 2012

Honors Program

The NISD Collegiate Academy at Steele AHS Dual credit coursework for qualifying students beginning in 9 th grade Face to face instructional delivery for grades 9 and 10 Honors collegiate coursework for qualifying students in grades 11 and 12 Face to face or campus-based facilitated online instructional delivery for grades 11 and 12 College coaching provided by NCTC coordinator and required advisory period beginning in grade 9 Individualized safety nets and mentors provided for each student Campus staff trained to provide assistance and resources

Honors Designation A Collegiate Academy Honors student will- Engage in meaningful research and inquiry Have the opportunity to grow as a student and scholar Acquire prerequisites needed for acceptance into university honors programs Requirements- 3.3 overall high school GPA Cumulative 3.0 GPA on all college coursework Expectations- In-depth research projects presented to NCTC students, faculty, and staff on the college campus for each course.
