Using ClassScape with the SMART Response System 10/6/2009 This documentation details how to use a ClassScape based assessment with SMART Notebook and the SMART Response clickers. These details are based on Notebook version 10.0.522.2. In order to get started users (teachers) need to set up an Assessment in SMART Notebook that will be used while the teacher navigates through a ClassScape assessment. This documentation will refer to this process as a parallel test. Assumptions of this document: 1) Users know how to create/setup ClassScape assessments. Also, users setting up a ClassScape assessment intending to integrate with SMART will have created a ClassScape assessment registration. 2) Users know how to use SMART Notebook, Teacher Tools, and SMART Response clickers. 3) ClassScape and SMART technology will only be used for multiple-choice assessments. Contents: 1) Setting up the parallel test in SMART Notebook 2) Administration of the test a. Intending to integrate into ClassScape including how to upload data back to ClassScape b. As a stand-alone assessment 1

Setting up a parallel test in SMART Notebook* for ClassScape *NOTE: These instructions were developed based on SMART Notebook version 10.0.522.2 and Model No. 03-00098-20B SMART Response clickers. Requirements: 1. ClassScape assessment MUST only contain Multiple Choice items 2. Number of items of ClassScape assessment must be known (the assessment must be created/scheduled in ClassScape first) Using SMART Notebook to Set Up a Parallel Assessment for ClassScape 1. From the SMART Notebook application create a new Notebook File by clicking File > New. 2. Click the SMART Response tab on the left hand side. Next, click the Title Page icon. 2

3. In the Insert Title Page popup, provide appropriate information in Title / Type fields. Users could insert the same name in the Title field that the ClassScape assessment is named. Optionally, creating a generic set of parallel SMART assessments with Titles such as 15 Item Test would work too. Then click the Add button. 4. Click Add a question to the next page from the SMART Response tab (in the Summary section) 5. In the Insert Question popup, select Multiple Choice as the type of question to insert, then click the Next> button. 3

6. On the subsequent screen in the Insert Question popup, enter placeholder text for the question. A good question placeholder like Question #1 would be appropriate. Then click the Next > button. 7. On the next screen in the popup window, select the number of foils offered by the item, then click the Next > button. ClassScape multiple-choice items can be either 4-foil or 3-foil. NOTE: you do not need to enter in foil text for ClassScape-based assessments. 4

8. On the next screen, choose This is an opinion question as the correct answer and then click the Finish button. 5

9. Click the first tab (paper with upper right hand corner folded) in the upper left hand corner - this displays the item just added to SMART notebook. Right click the last page added to the assessment and choose Clone Page. 10. Repeat step 9 for the remaining number of items in the ClassScape assessment. Example: For a 10 item ClassScape assessment, you should have 11 pages total. No sample questions will display from ClassScape for these assessment types. 6

11. Edit clone pages to reflect the item order on the parallel ClassScape assessment. Beginning with page 3 (the first cloned page), click the page in the vertical column list, then double click the stem text to edit it. 12. Repeat Step 11 for remaining items in the assessment. 13. Save assessment DONE! 7

Administration of the Assessment with the Intention to Integrate Data into ClassScape Requirements: 1. Parallel assessment created in SMART Notebook. 2. Class setup in SMART Response teacher tools that corresponds to the class associated with the assessment registration code. Scheduling the Assessment in the ClassScape Assessment System 1. In the ClassScape Assessment System, schedule the desired assessment. NOTE: The assessment MUST only contain multiple choice items. 2. In step 2 of the scheduling process, answer YES to Allow students to take the assessment with a student response system (clicker). Administering the ClassScape Assessment with SMART Notebook 1. Open SMART Response Teacher Tools. 2. Start the appropriate class and allow students to login with SMART Response clickers. 3. The teacher should login to the ClassScape Assessment System as a student (http://www.classscape.org/student), providing the desired assessment code. Login as any student that has not completed the assessment. On the Welcome to the ClassScape Assessment System page, click the YES button to begin the assessment. NOTE: No sample question will appear. 4. Open SMART Notebook 5. Within SMART Notebook, open the parallel assessment previously created (see section above) that corresponds to the ClassScape assessment being given. 6. Click the SMART Response tab on the left-hand side. When ready to administer the assessment to students, click Start this Assessment Now. 8

7. In the ClassScape student interface, display each assessment question to the students. DO NOT provide answers for each item or press the Grade Me button at the end of the assessment administration. 8. When you have completed the assessment, close the ClassScape student interface. Within SMART Notebook, click Stop this Assessment from the SMART Response tab. 9

9. Click Response in the menu at the top, select Export Results To, then select Comma Separated Values (CSV) 10. In the Save As popup window, enter the assessment code as the file name, then press the Save button. The hyphen in the assessment code name is optional. 10

11. After pressing the Save button, the Export to CSV window will appear. Student Name should only appear in one column. Student ID and Answers to Individual Questions should be the only checkboxes checked. Click the OK button to generate the CSV file. 11

12. Open the generated CSV file with a spreadsheet application. The data should appear similar to the sample below. 13. The second column (B) contains the Student ID as entered into SMART Teacher Tools. For each student in the CSV file, the Student ID must match each Student ID in the ClassScape Assessment System. This Student ID is not the student s ClassScape login, but the Student ID provided when the student was added to the ClassScape Assessment System. This is most likely the NC WISE Student ID. [To get a listing of the correct ClassScape Student IDs, click the Students tab, then select Manage School Students as a test administrator OR select View/Edit/Delete Students as a Teacher.] When all Student IDs are replaced in the CSV file, save the file. 14. Login to ClassScape as a teacher. Click the Assessments tab, then select Upload Clicker Data. Follow the instructions to upload the generated CSV file. 15. The ClassScape will respond with a report detailing what actions will be taken before you confirm the data upload. Any problems with the upload file will be identified during this process. Upon successful upload data will be integrated into the ClassScape Assessment System and reports can be generated immediately. 12

Administration of the ClassScape Assessment as a Stand-Alone Assessment using SMART Notebook (No need to upload student response data into the ClassScape Assessment system) Requirements: 1. Parallel assessment created in SMART Notebook. If reports from SMART Notebook are desired, this parallel assessment will need to have keys entered for each item. Question text and foils should still contain only placeholder text. 2. Be logged into ClassScape ready to preview an assessment Displaying the Assessment in the ClassScape Assessment System 1. Login to the ClassScape Assessment System as a teacher or test admin. Next, select Assessments in the menu bar, then select Schedule Assessment. 2. Select the appropriate assessment in the box, then click the Preview Assessment w/o Keys button to display the items in the assessment. 3. Maximize the popup window that displays the current assessment item. At this point, the assessment in ClassScape is ready to show to students. Administering the ClassScape Assessment with SMART Notebook 1. Open SMART Response Teacher Tools. 2. Start the appropriate class and allow students to login with SMART Response clickers. 3. Open SMART Notebook. 4. Within SMART Notebook, open the parallel assessment that corresponds to the ClassScape assessment. 5. Click the SMART Response tab on the left-hand side. When ready to administer the assessment to students, click Start this Assessment Now. 13

6. When assessment is complete, close the Preview Assessment window from the ClassScape Assessment system. Within SMART Notebook, click Stop this Assessment from the SMART Response tab. 7. Use SMART Notebook in coordination with SMART Teacher Tools for reports. 14
