(STEM) 2 SUMMER RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Strengthening Transfer Education and Matriculation in Science Technology Engineering and Math A partnership between CSU Fullerton, Citrus College, Cypress College, and Santiago Canyon College Minimum eligibility criteria to apply to the (STEM) 2 Summer Research Experience You are an active (STEM) 2 member at Citrus College, Cypress College, or Santiago Canyon College You have completed one-year of college level math or science You are willing to make a full-time commitment to the 8-week program You plan to transfer to a bachelor s degree granting institution in spring 2017 or later OR if you applied to CSU Fullerton as one of your possible transfer schools for fall 2016. Program Description The Summer Research Experience provides students from Citrus College, Cypress College, and Santiago Canyon College an opportunity to conduct research at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) in an 8- week summer program. Selected students will gain first-hand experience in scientific investigation in a dynamic, collaborative research environment. Students will be matched with CSUF faculty who will provide training and support. In addition to research, participants will write a final report and present their findings at the College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics Summer Research Symposium. Participants will receive a $5,000 stipend for their research and work throughout the summer. Summer Research Experience overview Program will run from June 13 th through August 5 th Students commit to 40+ hours/week for 8 weeks (no partial or segmented participation) Students will produce a final report and poster based on their research Students must present their poster at CSU Fullerton and their community college Students must complete the program, produce a final report, and present their work in order to receive their $5,000 stipend Applications must include the following components: A typed and completed student application packet (only completed packets will be reviewed) Personal statement Copy of all unofficial college transcripts Two letters of recommendation one from a faculty member and one from either another faculty member, a counselor, or a work supervisor Selection process: Completed applications are reviewed by community college faculty and staff After initial application review, students will be selected for interviews at CSUF Following interviews, applicants will be placed into labs by CSUF faculty and staff Selected students will be notified of their lab placements by May 2 nd Submit completed applications Dr. Phillip Crabill, STEM Counselor, at crabill_phillip@sccollege.edu or Ann Cass, STEM Counselor, at cass_ann@sccollege.edu or drop-off applications to Counseling Center D-106, Attention: "STEM Counseling" This opportunity requires a full-time commitment, which may require work on the weekends.
