By submitting this application I am willing to commit to the expectations as outlined in the 2017-2018 CMA Docent Information Sheet (following page). The Columbus Museum of Art can only accept a limited number of docent candidates. Select applicants will be contacted for an in-person interview. 2017-2018 CMA Docent Information Sheet We are recruiting volunteer docents to participate in a five-month intensive training program and commit to two years of touring groups in the Museum after graduation. Special fall sessions will take place in November and December 2017. Regular classes will be held on Saturday mornings from 10am-12:30pm from January-May 2018. Expect to attend and participate in two-hour training sessions three times a month. You may be asked to attend additional presentations or observe tours occasionally on other days of the week. Course fee investment is $200 plus an additional nonrefundable $50 materials fee. Fees cover space usage at the Museum, guest speakers, etc. Fees can be paid in installments. Scholarships are available to participants who demonstrate need. During new docent sessions, you can expect to learn the following subject areas: o Visitor-centered touring techniques and ways to facilitate creative conversations o Museum education philosophies and practices o Early childhood development through adult learning with learners ages 5-100 o Cultural, social and stylistic backgrounds of visual art, focusing on CMA s collection and special exhibitions. o Cultivating and celebrating creativity, critical thinking and imagination Expect to participate in group discussion and personal reflection, both of which will be used to develop a culture of thinking within our group. Writing assignments, readings, and other experiential assignments will be utilized throughout the course. Upon course completion, active docents are required to maintain a Museum membership during the duration of their time as a docent. (Memberships start at $65.) Docents also pay an annual $50 fee for dues that cover group social events. Page 5 of 5
