CLASS - 1 ST SUMMATIVE - 01 DETAILED PLANNER OF ENGLISH CLASSES REQUIRED TOPIC 4 (40 minutes class period) Poem Kittens Kittens! Concept: About Animals and pets. Skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Recitation of poem with right modulation and intonation. Know what the poem is about. Learn about animals and their pets. Have fun in reading and reciting the poem. Expression and Imagination. Maximum coverage to rhyming words. Eg. jeans-screens,head-bread etc. Text Book, Teacher presenter, Animal pop-ups. PEDAGOGY Warm-Up Activity: Teachers will ask students about various animals and their babies. They will be asked about the pet they like. Follow-Up: After random questioning teacher and students will recite the poem together with proper rhythm, gestures and intonation. Reading Hour: Teacher and student will read the poem underlining rhyming words. Activity: Chain reading of the poem. Talk Time : Who is your favourite animal? Describe your pet in two lines. Learning about animals around and listen to the story with a moral greediness is a curse. Learn new words as hungry, greedy, river, etc. Learn essentials of Grammar and identify naming words and use them in sentences. Learn blend sounds to make words and read with proper blending and segmentation of sound. Learn to read sight words regularly to enhance their reading skills. Text book and Teacher Presenter Word cards (identifying nouns) and Blend Picture Book Sight words display Introductory Activity: Teacher will ask students as: How do you feel when you look at yummy chocolates, chips, sweets, etc.? Do you feel greedy or do you like to share these with anyone? Follow up: Depending upon their responses teacher will narrate the story of The Greedy Dog with proper enactment and make them learn that One should not be greedy. Grammar: Teacher will make students to play a noun game and make them to identify naming words around them. They will frame a sentence with the naming words. Phonics: Teacher will make the students to learn the given blend sound and make them to make the word. The teacher and students will read the blend words with proper segmenting of sounds. Short I sound words: Teacher and students together will list the words with short I sound and learn words like pin. tin etc. Sight words will be read on the regular basis in the class. Activity: Look at the pictures and sequence the story ( The Greedy Dog) Identify the naming words from the word cards.
