SBA Report Carolyn Tonn reporting It is getting very difficult to find enough volunteers who will serve for desk duty; six people had to have desk duty twice this past month. A discussion was had about whether to reduce the number of days per week that the SCORE office has a person in the office or how we can solve this problem. Most people expressed the opinion that they preferred to NOT reduce the number of days that the SCORE office has a person at the desk. The best solution would be to recruit more people who are able to serve at desk duty. No action taken at this time. Committee Chair Reports D. Workshop Committee (Jean Kruse reporting for Dianne Martin) March Workshop Committee Report April 2, 2014: March Workshops:

Please ask him for an update on this. Dianne Martin, Workshop Committee Chair Have you or your clients contact Dianne Martin 319-431-4574 or email at Dianne.martin@mchsi.com to attend these events. Serving Benton, Cedar, Jones and Linn Counties MENTORS: Contact clients to get them to attend the workshops. Go to http://eastcentraliowa.score.org/events for added information. E. Training & Membership Dick Bice reporting There are presently at least 7 new members in the process of training. We need new recruits to know our expectations to work at desk duty; they need to know what we expect of them. Training would like to schedule presentations of about 10 minutes during the program at our meetings; one subject would be the portal. F. Marketing Jim Burns Jim would like to do a periodic newsletter. They are working on a revised brochure which will be ready next week; Bice is working with Copy Works on this (this was approved last month). Jim has at least one new success story for the brochure and is working on another. They will send the success stories to National when completed. Three volunteers came to Sam s last week for our monthly visit there.

There were 23 persons at the roundtable last month, which is too many they don t all get to talk. Therefore, they have made arrangements to have a second breakfast roundtable on the 2 nd Tuesday of each month from 7:30 to 9 am. Keith Rippy will be the facilitator. It will be at the same place Scott s Restaurant on Blairs Ferry. Jim will send an email to all of the Thursday attendees about the new date. He asked the present group why they attend the present group reason is they like each other. The first meeting of the new roundtable group will be on Tuesday, April 8. G. Technology Jim Green Reporting Office computer is now working last week it was not, but Jim fixed it. A lot of the emails that Technology sends out have been bouncing. Jim is working on the presentation that he and Jim Vancura will give at the District meeting on Friday, May 16. H. Administration Jim Vancura and Pat Gosnell both reported on the very large number of uncounseled clients that presently are listed. I. Evaluation No report. J. Iowa City Chapter Task Force Greg Christensen Reporting We received an email from a person who lives in Coralville who wants to become a volunteer member of our chapter; we presume Membership is pursuing this and will have an interview with him soon. K. District Director Report Jean Kruse Reporting The Annual District meeting will be held at the Ames Holiday Inn on Friday May 16 from 9:30 am to 4 pm. Jean is encouraging Chapter members to attend if possible. Dean Swanson, our Regional Director from Minnesota will be a presenter at the meeting. Also, Jim Green and Jim Vancura will present info on Constant Contact and chapter websites. It is important that all of our members take the survey that is being sent to each volunteer. Reminders will be sent by National each of the next two Mondays. Members should at least open emails from National. Many of the emails are very informative and helpful. Taking the survey is very important to National and to our chapter so PLEASE take the survey; it does not take long. As of March 30, only 22 of our members had taken the survey that is 47%--let s shoot for 100%. Explanation of the SimpleSteps program that Des Moines chapter is now offering. They have secured 4 sponsors who contributed $2,000 each to do the marketing of the program which will be presented on three different evenings in three different locations beginning on April 14 and ending on May 15. The Des Moines chapter will report on this at our District meeting on May 16. Our chapter s counseling sessions have increased from 283 to 299 for the 6 months ended March 30 over that same period last year. However our workshop attendees have decreased from 657 to 474 during that same period so we had a net decrease in counseling + workshops of about 18%. The total of all 11 chapters in the Iowa District had a 9% increase in those total services. Jim Vancura expressed his disappointment that so many of our members do not even open the emails from National and also those from our own chapter. The Corridor Business Journal did a very nice article in CBJ about Jon Konchar s presentation last month at the Marion Library the reporters attended with their cameras and took pictures nice article. Also, he announced that Chuck Murphy will present his Franchising program for SBA at the Marion Public Library at noon on Thursday, April 10.
