3 NOW_IN_THEATERS:_DECON_2016 We hope that you enjoy the theme of this year s DECON as much as NED loves wearing his purple bow tie. Over the years, NED has been under the ocean, a detetive, a king, and an explorer. NED should have won an oscar for his incredible and unique performance in the DECON Promo Video this year! NED is as much as a symbol for our District as Uncle Sam is to America. This year, NED invites you to be a superstar of service as we showcase the highlights of our District and Key Club International in Springfield, Massachusetts. We hope to see you on April 10! in and around the SERVICE FAIR A Baby NED The Service Fair, which will open on Saturday in the mid-morning, contains displays from Key Clubs all over the District. Not only does this highlight the wonderful events and fundraisers that benefit our communities, but it illustrates the creativity of our members and spreads new service ideas between Key Clubs. Does your Key Club have a board to display this year? While exploring the Service Fair, (which it is expected that all Key Clubbers attend when not eating lunch on Saturday) there will be opportunites for you to purchase small items from different booths, with the money going towards District or Key Club-sponsored charities. Also available outside the fair are baby NEDS, District pins, and more! Make sure to bring money for the Change Wars! Change Wars will be held outside the service fair. Change wars work by having four groups: Maine, Massachusetts, Conneticut, and the Quad: New Hampshire, Bermuda, Vermont, and Rhode Island. Rememer that any dollar bills placed in the jars will cancel out change! On the right you can see this year s pin. The chance to purchase these pins is very exciting, as it is the first year in several that we will be selling them. This summer during ICON s meet and greet, we will be able to trade pins with other districts!

Greetings New England and Bermuda District Key Clubbers! It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 67th annual New England and Bermuda District Educational Conference! I have had the distinct honor of serving as your Governor for the 2015-2016 Key Club year, and I can say that it was without a doubt one of the best years of my life. I am so proud of everything the District has accomplished throughout the past year, and I have loved watching each and every one of you make differences and give back to your homes, schools, and communities. Throughout this year, our District has impacted so many lives not just locally, but also globally. By supporting our three District Projects: Camp Sunshine, Children of Peace International, and Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute, our service has benefitted many families, children, and patients worldwide. Our District s continuous support towards the Eliminate Project has continued to provide mothers and their children with the vaccines they need in order to eradicate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the world. In addition to this, I want to thank all of you who supported my Governor s Project this year, and collected school supplies to send to the children who attend the schools sponsored by Children of Peace International. It means so much to not only me, but also the recipients of these supplies. If you didn t have the chance to get involved yet, it s not too late! Come to my workshop on Saturday morning at 9:30 A.M. in order to help assemble these supplies! We need all the hands we can get. Thank you for taking time out of your busy lives and schedules to be here at the 2016 District Educational Conference (DECON). This weekend will be an amazing opportunity, so cherish every second of it. If this is your first DECON, or your last, make sure you savor every second because it will be over before you know it! I remember when I attended my first DECON, and I can still remember the amazing feeling of being surrounded by hundreds of people who feel the same way about service and helping others as I did. Nothing can beat that feeling. So, cherish every second, have fun, meet new people, and be wise when selecting your choices for next year s District Board! This weekend, you will have opportunities to connect with other Key Clubbers from all over New England and share your service ideas with them, as well as learn about new projects as you walk through the Service Fair. You ll learn about how to be a better club officer at workshops, hang out with new and old friends at the dances, and vote for next year s District Executive Board! I encourage all of you to vote based on the quality of the candidates, not by how popular they are. One of the main purposes of DECON is to recognize the clubs and members who have gone above and beyond in their pursuit of excellent service! The New England and Bermuda District is grateful to every single one of its members because even just one member can make a huge impact. I would like to give a special thank you to this year s District Board, who have worked extremely hard in planning this year s District Educational Conference. This year s board has been extraordinary, and I can t thank each of you enough for all of the work you ve put in this year. Your commitment and dedication to Key Club is remarkable. Thank you so much for joining us this weekend here in Springfield, and for everything each of you and your Key Clubs have accomplished this year. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible. Have a great weekend! Yours in service, Lexie Jamieson District Governor During the International Convention workshop, participants will: better understand what ICON is, discover why they should attend, hear a general overview of the convention schedule, watch a promotional video that highlights Atlanta and the convention itself, and receive information about the New England & Bermuda district tour. Message from the Kiwanis Family Come to the Kiwanis Family workshop and learn about the different branches of our family, the Kiwanis Family! We will cover what the other branches are, and hopefully, you can use this information to strengthen your relations with the branches near you. 5

NED stips for making the most of DECON! A quick outline, courtesy of your host, NED the lobster! Attend the workshops and make sure to listen to the candidates running for District positions- Come prepared to make friends- If you get Dunkin Donuts in the morning, get there early- Always ask candidates to say the District cheer in the caucus room during question time- Learn how to get between the Marriott and Sheraton as soon as possible (or follow the movement of the masses)- Bring extra money for a baby NED, you ll want oneand be ready to have an amazing experience! 6

7 Governor s project ~The Governor s Project HQ will be located in the Worthy room (on the 2nd Floor of the Sheraton) throughout the Conference. ~Clubs can drop off donations in the Worthy on Friday during Registration (3:00 to 6:00 PM) or during the Friday Dance (9:30-11:00 PM). ~During the Friday Dance, Key Clubbers are encouraged to stop by the Worthy and help organize, sort, and quality control donated items. ~During the 9:00 AM Workshop session, Governor Lexie will be hosting a service project in the Worthy to assemble kits of school supplies for students in Vietnam. ~If need be, we will finish up school supply kit assembly in the Worthy during the Saturday dance. Binh Rybacki, Founder of Children of Peace International, will be present during DECON and will be in the Governor s Project sessions. She will also be leading a workshop at 1:00 on Saturday in the Worthy. These are great opportunities for Key Clubbers to come meet her and learn more about the organization that they are supporting through the Governor s Project. #NEDfest #NEDfest is the name of the Friday Night Dance this year.please remember to show off your pride in Key Club and the New England & Bermuda District (and our mascot, NED the Lobster). Themed costumes for this dance include lobster apparel and shirts (or other swag ) from your Key Club, the New England & Bermuda District, and Key Club International. Not sure what to wear? All attendees will receive a DECON t-shirt that happens to have NED the Lobster on it! IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!! This year, pennies will not be accepted at the Change Wars. Please only bring silver coins and bills!
