A message from the Chair of Governors.. Dear Parents, Carers and Children, This is my last year as Chair of Governors at Sunnyfields School and, more importantly, my last year as a parent at the school! This last term has been an emotional journey for me and George, who is the last of my four boys to attend the School. He leaves Y6 on Friday and, so begins a new era for my family. I ve been a parent at Sunnyfields for a long time - 18 years - and have been a governor for 14 of those years. I know of other parents who have been here for at least as long as me, some longer. There s a reason why we keep coming back and that s because Sunnyfields is a very special place. A place where everyone is focused on the children and not just their academic development but their social and emotional development too. That was evident from the wonderful end of year celebration on Friday last week. Developing friendships is SO important and my children have made friends for life at Sunnyfields (as have I) my oldest son (aged 22) is still in contact with his Sunnyfields friends even though most of them went to different secondary schools and then on to different Universities. As parents and as governors, we all strive to get the best academic education for our children and Sunnyfields delivers that (look at our amazing results!). But my message to you, as a seasoned parent of 4 wonderful boys and again as a governor, is that our children s happiness and social skills and friends are equally important as good grades. Do not underestimate the importance of friendships and having fun. Without that, you won t have a happy child or good grades. Ms Meyer and her team, supported by governors, children and parents deliver something special at Sunnyfields and I ve not seen that in other schools. As a governor and as Chair, it s been an honour to work with Lisa and with previous Headteachers and an experience I would definitely repeat! I thank you for your good wishes and I wish you all a fantastic summer! My best wishes, Tracy Simmons
