Campus Highlights and Events Form - Date 04.06-04.12.18 Campus Mission High School Submitted by Edilberto Flores Highlights We want to congratulate our boy s track teams for a great job the last two days, Thursday and Friday, April 5-6, competing at the District meet in McAllen. Our Varsity Boys team finished in Second Place in team standings and our Junior Varsity Team won the Team District Title. 1 2 3 The following are varsity athletes that finished in the Top 4 and qualified for the Area Meet. District Champion in the Long Jump and in the Triple Jump, 3rd Place in the 300m Hurdles Sebastian Gonzalez. District Champion in the 400m and 200m Alex Cordova 2 time District Champion in the Pole Vault Miguel Frias Mile Relay District Champions Alex Cordova, Sebastian Gonzalez, Felix Perez, Jonathan Samaniego. 800 m Relay Runner-up Sebastian Gonzalez, Michael Delva, Hector Flores, Alex Lopez 800m Run Area Qualifier Felix Perez 3200m and 1600m run Area Qualifier Marco Castro Pole Vault runner up and Area Qualifier Anthony Ramon Shot Put Area Qualifier Zachary Clemons In our JV, we had numerous athletes place in the top three including 2nd place in the 400m Relay and District Champions in both the 800m Relay and the Mile Relay. In addition, we had District Champions in the Shot Put: Joey Ortiz and District Champion in the 110 Hurdles Justin Soto. Congratulations to our Mighty Mission Eagles Baseball Team for defeating the Memorial Mustangs by the score of 13-7. The Eagles started the game with a leadoff home run. In the bottom of the 3 rd, Juan Garza hit a GRAND SLAM HOMERUN. The Eagles continue their winning streak with exciting games and WINNING GAMES. On Friday night, April 6, our Lady Eagles defeated the LJ Juarez-Lincoln Lady Huskies by the score of 11-0. The Lady Eagles were led with a strong offensive EXPLOSION and a stingy defense. The Lady Eagles played hard and covered the field like a glove. 4 The Mission High School FFA Dairy Cattle Judging team has advanced to the State Dairy Cattle Judging Career Development Events Finals.

On Friday, April 6, the team placed 3rd at the Area X Dairy Cattle Judging Contest and 2nd place in the Rio Grande Valley FFA District. Student Sebastian Carrillo was ranked 3rd place high point Individual at the Area Level and 2nd place high point individual in the RGV FFA District. All 4 members placed in the top 10 high point individuals at the District Level. RGV FFA District Placing Mission High School 2nd Place Sr. Team Individual High Point Individual Placing's: Sebastian Carrillo 2nd place, Jorge Calderon 4th place, Librado Anzaldua 8th place and Ileana Martinez 10th place. The State Dairy Cattle Judging Contest will be held at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX on Thursday, April 26, 2018. Team Members left to right are Jorge Calderon, Sebastian Carrillo, Ileana Martinez and Librado Anzaldua. 5 Congratulations, goes out to the Lady Eagle Varsity Golf Team who played in the 30-6A District Golf Tournament this past Thursday and Friday and for the THIRD year in a row brought home the District Title. Members of the Lady Eagles District Champions are Seniors Andrea Laca and Miriam Ibarra, Junior Mia Lerma, and Sophomores Christine Deanda and Miranda Neagle. Four of the girls finished in the top 10 including Miriam Ibarra (9 th place), Christine Deanda (7 th place), Miranda Neagle (4 th place) and Mia Lerma (2 nd place). Senior Laryssa Fuentes and Junior Iliana Alvarado also participated in the individual competition and finished 12 th and 16 th respectively. The Varsity Boys placed 4 th in the District tournament. Members of the team are Seniors Jerry Gonzalez, Adrian Garza, and Jaziel Garcia. Junior Hugo Lopez and Sophomores Danny Rodriguez and Efrain Zamora. The Lady Eagles next participate in the Region IV Regional Tournament in two weeks in San Antonio. Once again Congratulations Lady Eagles and good luck at Regionals.

Varsity 5th place, advancing to the area meet was the 400 meter relay (Ileana Martinez, Alyssa Gaona, Leslie Salinas and Cynthia Gutierrez) 200 meter dash and Long Jump Cynthia Gutierrez and 2 mile Jazmine Sustaita. The Lady Eagles Track Team will be competing next Friday, April 20, at the Area meet. Good Luck Lady Eagles!!!!. 8 On Saturday, April 7th, the MHS Winter Guard competed in the Texas Educational Colorguard Association (TECA) State Championships in Kingsville, TX. The group entered the day ranked 6th in their classification and ended the day with the Silver Medal in the Scholastic A classification. Along with the 2nd place overall finish, the guard earned a caption award for Design Analysis. This marks the best finish in the highest classification in school history and the first time winning one of the four caption awards. 9 Congratulations to Candace Rodriguez for having her article, Mission High School Couple Surprised with Texas Longhorn Scholarships, on Alyssa Garza s and Alejandro Martinez s scholarship to the University of Texas-Austin in Golden Age of Eagles magazine. 10 Congratulations to our Mighty Mission Eagles Baseball Team for defeating LJ Juarez-Lincoln Huskies by a narrow victory of 3-2 on Wednesday evening, April 11. The Eagles Baseball Team continues to ride consecutive victories in their quest to position themselves for post-season play.
