GCSE Mathematics The GCSE Mathematics curriculum is designed to enable students to become fluent, problem solve and interpret mathematical information found in everyday life.

Specification Overview Two tiers are available in Maths higher and foundation. For Edexcel the assessment for both tiers takes the form of three 90 minute exam papers: Paper 1 - non-calculator Papers 2 and 3 calculator allowed Each paper has 80 marks and the content will be assessed across all three papers. The grades available for each tier are Foundation 1-5 Higher 4-9 As there is overlap between the two tiers, students on the grade 4/5 borderline may be entered for either higher or foundation tier depending on which tier it is felt suits each individual student best.

Key Topics / Timeline The topic areas covered are as follows

Key Topics / Timeline In Maths students revisit previously taught topics on a regular basis building in new knowledge each time. Each topic is taught in 2-3 week blocks with students being assessed at the end of each topic. In Year 10 we also test more fully at the end of the autumn and spring terms with a full examination at the end of each year. The majority of the course content will have been covered by the end of Year 10. In year 11 students sit four PPEs in Maths to fully prepare them for their GCSE exams.

Online Support Students can access a wealth of great resources and revision tools for maths via the internet Some of our favourite websites are listed below Corbettmaths.com Mathsgenie.co.uk Examsolutions.net Keshmaths.com Mathsbot.com

Key Books or Revision Guides There is no particular textbook which we use in Maths. A range of revision guides are available on the high street.

Additional Support In Year 10 students may on occasion be invited to attend catch up sessions after school to gain support with weak topics areas recently covered. There are always Maths teachers available at the end of the day if any student just needs a bit of extra help. Teachers run revision sessions in the lead up to end of Year 10 exams.
