Rankin s Springs Public School Newsletter Tuesday 12 th June 2018 Term 2 Week 7 What s happening School Grounds Beautification A huge thank you to parents, who gave up their time and brought in equipment to attend the working bee last Wednesday. In a very short space of time, our school was transformed. The front walkway and the adjoining garden dug and planted; several trees and camellias planted around the school grounds, which in the future will offer additional shade and lovely autumn colour and a general tidy up of the grounds. Without the help of a pro-active and energetic P&C these jobs would take a much longer time to accomplish. Science Week This week the students in K-6 will be participating in a week of Science investigation. Students in K-2 will be investigating and learning about push and pull. This unit of work provides the opportunity for students to explore pushes and pulls. Through investigation, students will observe and gather evidence about how these forces act in air and water, and on the ground. Students will identify the effect of the pull of gravity and learn that both air and water can 'push'. Students will also explore that push and pull forces can move through objects by sliding, bouncing and spinning. Year 3-6 focus is Energy. Students will investigate and research renewable and non-renewable energy resources; energy use and how to manage the use of energy sustainably; conduct an energy survey of their home and school and design and make a simple device that uses renewable energy. Professional Development Last Thursday and Friday all teaching staff attended Learning and Thinking Scope professional training. This is on-going training that supports the school team to consider the role of thinking in learning Learning Clarity, Thinking Questions, Thinking Talk and Thinking Feedback. It provides a clear approach for developing a school-wide system for learning improvement.
