Draft BOARD OF EDUCATION WOLCOTT, CONNECTICUT A Board of Education meeting was held on Monday, July 21, 2014, at Tyrrell Middle School. In attendance were: Patricia Najarian, Chairman of the Board; Gloria Gubitosi, Vice Chairman of the Board; Cynthia Mancini, Secretary of the Board; Thomas Buzzelli, Lori DelBuono, Roberta Leonard, Arthur Lerz Sr. and Kimberly Lumia, all Board members. Also in attendance: Joseph Macary, Superintendent of Schools; Todd Bendtsen, Business Manager; Joseph Monroe, Principal of Wolcott High School; Arline Tansley, Principal of Tyrrell Middle School; Shawn Simpson, Assistant Principal of Tyrrell Middle School; Holly Wrenn, Principal of Alcott School; Melissa Iles, Director of Student Services; Wendie Rodriguez, Supervisor of Special Education; and Joan Gray, Board Clerk. The regular Board meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m., the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Mrs. Najarian read the Wolcott Public Schools Mission Statement. Approval of Minutes: by Mrs. Lumia, seconded by Ms. Leonard, to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of June 23, 2014. Communications: Thank you letter from the Ms. Crumb Thank you note from Mr. Sisson Letter from Dr. Kelly Thank you note from Mr. Ciccio Letter from Mr. Valletta Business Manager s Report: Budget Transfers: by Mrs. Mancini, seconded by Mrs. Gubitosi, to authorize the transfer of $903,972.39 presented in the Business Manager s report.

Wolcott Board of Education July 21, 2014 Page 2 of 6 Expenditures: by Mrs. Mancini, seconded by Mrs. Gubitosi, to approve expenditures as follows: To approve the August 2014 payroll expenditure in the amount of $950,000. To approve expenditures in the amount of $167,890.74 paid on July 22, 2014 for fiscal year 2013-2014. To approve expenditures in the amount of $1,030,912.20 paid on July 22, 2014 for fiscal year 2014-2015. Superintendent s Report: Wolcott Summer Studies is celebrating its 50 th Anniversary. There are approximately 500 students signed up for the program this year. Registration for new students at Wolcott High School is by appointment on August 21 and 22 from 9:00 to 1:00. Call 203 879-8157 on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings during the summer to schedule. Elementary registration is on Friday, August 22, 2014 from 9:00 to 2:00 at Alcott, Frisbie or Wakelee. All athletes will need a current physical to participate at the high school and middle school. Forms can be picked up at the schools. The Annual Report of the Superintendent of Schools for the 2013-2014 School Year is in the Board s packet for their review. by Mrs. Gubitosi, seconded by Mrs. Mancini, to approve the Superintendent s Report. Public Comment: No one came forward. Committee Reports: Mrs. Gubitosi reported the Facilities Committee met at 6:30 and received an update on summer projects, and a report on the month of August bills. Mrs. Mancini said the Finance Committee met earlier. Pending invoices, budget transfers, today s oil prices, the internal service report, the profit and loss reports for the Latchkey Program and Food Services were all reviewed and discussed.

OLD BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS: Approve Resignations: by Mrs. Lumia, seconded by Ms. DelBuono, to accept the following resignations of: 1. Geraldine Aldi in the position of Worker in the Latchkey Program at Wakelee School effective June 24, 2014; 2. Meghan Azzara in the position of Guidance Counselor at Tyrrell Middle School effective July 15, 2014; 3. Francis Hubeny in the position of Facilities Director for the Wolcott Public Schools effective July 16, 2014; 4. Monica Humphrey in the position of Art Teacher at Alcott and Frisbie Elementary Schools effective July 17, 2014; 5. Joanne Lacedra in the position of Grade 5 Teacher at Wakelee School for the purpose of retirement effective June 26, 2014; 6. Jennifer Marino in the position of Grade 2 Teacher at Wakelee School effective July 2, 2014; 7. Aisha Mobley in the position of Guidance Counselor at Wolcott High School effective July 16, 2014; 8. Alison Regan in the position of Girls Freshman Volleyball Coach at Wolcott High School effective for the 2014 season; 9. Michael Terry in the position of Boys Soccer Coach at Tyrrell Middle School effective for the 2014 season. Approve Transfer Between Jobs: by Mrs. Lumia, seconded by Mr. Buzzelli, to approve the following transfers to the positions indicated: 1. Donna Calabro from the position of Grade 4 Teacher at Wakelee Elementary School to the position of Grade 5 Teacher at Wakelee Elementary School effective August 25, 2014. Approve Nominations: by Ms. DelBuono, seconded by Mrs. Lumia, to appoint the following person(s) as indicated:

Bryan MacKay in the position of Science Department Head at Wolcott High School effective with the 2014-2015 school year; 5. Naming of the WHS Press Box: by Ms. DelBuono, seconded by Mrs. Gubitosi, to name the Wolcott High School s Press Box at Monroe Field the John Rossi Press Box. All Board members present voted yes, except Mrs. Lumia who voted no. The motion carries. Approve Proposal Award Student Insurance: by Mrs. Mancini, seconded by Ms. DelBuono, to approve the proposal and award a contract to Colonna Insurance Services, LLC to provide the 2014-2015 Voluntary Student Accident Insurance and Interscholastic Sports Insurance Coverage Including Physical Education Classes in the amount of $28,500.00. Approve the 2013-2014 Annual Report of the Superintendent: by Mrs. Mancini, seconded by Mrs. Lumia, to approve the 2013-2014 Superintendent s Annual Report. ADD TO THE AGENDA: Approve Resignations: by Mrs. Gubitosi, seconded by Mrs. Lumia, to add to the agenda a resolution to approve the resignations of two teachers from Wolcott High School. Motion by Mrs. Lumia, seconded by Mrs. Gubitosi, to accept the resignations of: 1. Nicole DeConti in the position of English Teacher at Wolcott High School effective as of July 21, 2014; 2. Ann Santogatta in the position of Science Teacher at Wolcott High School for the purpose of retirement effective August 25, 2014. Time for the Public: No one came forward.
