July 2018 Dear Parents / Carers, As the end of the academic year rapidly approaches we wanted to ensure we sent out a reminder about key dates and activities including end of term arrangements and the plan for the first day back in September. Rewards Assemblies Monday 16 th July 2018 Monday will see each of our year groups celebrating the success of the past year with their rewards assemblies. These assemblies will be an opportunity for us to share with each year group some of the fantastic progress and effort that has been demonstrated this year. Apart from these assemblies, Monday will be a regular teaching day in the academy and full uniform is expected. Students are invited to wear non-uniform for the remainder of the week (PE kit on Thursday) and are asked to make a donation of 2 to cover these days which will be collected Tuesday morning. This money will contribute to the fundraising taking place on Tuesday 17 th July. Any students who do not wish to participate in this must wear full academy uniform for the remainder of the week. Activities Day Tuesday 17 th July 2018 As part of our activities day we are delighted to be able to open our doors for a summer fair at the academy. All of our students have been working hard on designing a stall which will raise money for Cancer Research. Students will be in lessons in the morning, then will return to their forms to prepare for the afternoon. Lunch time will be a little earlier and the canteen will provide a regular service. During the summer fair there will also be the opportunity for students and visitors to buy food from a BBQ. Students are encouraged to bring along some spending money on the day to be able to take part in the wide range of activities. Family and friends are invited to join us for the summer fair on the academy field from 12:30pm. The summer fair will end at 2:30pm at which point students will be dismissed from the academy. Drayton Manor Park Rewards Trip Wednesday 18 th July 2018 Further to the previous correspondence sent out, may we remind you of the timings for the day: Years 7 and 8 to arrive at 8.45am and register in the hall. Years 9 and 10 to arrive at 9.30am and register in the hall. Coaches will return to the academy for approximately 6pm.

Any students who are not attending have the choice of participating in one of four workshops being run in the academy. Attendance for these students follows the regular academy day; reporting at 8:45am to G1 for registration. They will be dismissed at 2:55pm. Students who remain in the academy on this day must wear their academy PE kit. 6 th form students will be attending a separate rewards visit to London which they will all be aware of. Sports Day Thursday 19 th July 2018 The final preparations are taking place for our sports day next week. Students should arrive at the academy in their PE kits. We would also like to remind you that it is advisable for your child to bring appropriate clothes for the day including; a hat and a high factor sun cream if the weather is sunny as well as a drink of water. There will be refreshments available to purchase on the day. Parents are welcome to attend from 11.45am 2pm and we would love to see as many of you as possible attend. Students will be dismissed at 2pm after the event has finished. Last day of term Friday 20 th July 2018 12 noon finish The final day of term will see students celebrating the year with their forms, completing a range of activities and having a final assembly with a range of performances from our talented student body. There will be an opportunity for students to purchase food from an early lunch service during an extended break time. Students will be dismissed from the academy at 12:00 pm. Summer Independence Packs Year 10 students will be receiving a pack of workbooks which they are expected to complete over their summer break. Although we appreciate students will need time to relax and recharge over the summer, we want to give them the best possible opportunity to succeed going into Year 11. Research has shown that often, students will regress over long summer breaks without completing relevant work to support their studies. We would like to thank you in advance for your support with this and helping us ensure our students achieve the best grades they can. GCSE Results Day 23 rd August 2018 Year 11 students are invited in to the academy to collect their English Literature and Business Studies GCSE results between 8.30am and 11am on Thursday 23 rd August 2018 and Year 10 students between 9.30am and 11am. There will be staff on hand to discuss the results and advise next steps and congratulate the students for their achievements. We look forward to seeing the students there for what will be an exciting time for us all. 6th Form Results Day 16 th August 2018 Year 12 and 13 students are invited in to the academy to collect their results between 8am and 11am on Thursday 16 th August 2018. There will be staff on hand to discuss the results and advise on issues such as university places or next steps.

Pastoral staffing We have expanded our pastoral team from September and each year will have their own dedicated Head of Year. For your information, leadership of year groups from September will be as follows: Year 7 Year 8 Year 9 Year 10 Year 11 Years 12 & 13 Mr Shepherd Mr Holdway Mr Porter Mr Kirk Mr Mitchell Mr Francis Pastoral coordinators have moved into one central base within the academy to enable them to support students across the year groups. They will, however, still be attached to particular year groups as follows: Year 7 and 8 Year 9 and 10 Years 11 and 6 th form Mrs Aston Mrs Sheppard Miss Fletcher Uniform and expectations September 2018 Uniform for students during the next academic year will remain the same and can be purchased from Crested School Wear based in Cannock or online at https://www.crestedschoolwear.co.uk/ Please be aware that wearing correct uniform supports our values of aspiration and preparation for life beyond the academy. Any student not in correct uniform, prior to entering the academy at the start of the day, will be sent home to change or be expected to use spare uniform held at the academy. This is non-negotiable; we will not compromise on our high standards of academy uniform. Please contact us if you have any queries about this.

6 th Form Dress Code Our expectations for 6 th form students is that they will attend the academy dressed in business attire. Students are not to dress in casual clothes or they will be sent home. RESPECT Code Following consultation with our students, we have made a change to the RESPECT code which has been so well embraced by all at the academy and praised by external visitors. As of September, the RESPECT code, which we expect all students to adhere to, will be as follows: Arrangements for the first day of term Tuesday 4 th September 2018 Please find attached the arrangements for the first day back in September. We have had some excellent feedback from parents about how convenient it is to communicate with the academy through this. From September, this will be our primary method of communication and will be used to send letters as well as replacing the current text message service. If you do not have the app yet we would encourage you to download it and we are sure you will see the benefit of it. In order for you to be able to register for this we need a current email address and phone number, so if you are having issues this may well be the reason. If you would like any support in getting the app up and running on your phone or tablet, then please do contact us and we will be happy to help. Can I take this opportunity to thank you for your support over this academic year and wish you and your family a relaxing and enjoyable summer holiday. Yours sincerely Mrs R. Hillier Principal
