Dear Parents/Carers, MESSAGE FROM THE HEADTEACHER We thought we would get in touch with an update featuring what has been happening in the school during this short half term and our plans for the weeks ahead. We are well into the exams season and are doing everything we can to make sure that our Year 11s are able to approach the Summer very confidently. We encourage Year 11 parents to keep the exams timetable attached safe and also to keep in touch with Miss Robinson or your child s tutor or mentor regarding our revision and after school classes. We have the Year 9 options process also coming up over the coming weeks and we will be writing to you soon regarding the timeline for this. We are aware that some parents have had difficulties in accessing the Parent Portal. Please can you contact us on the email mentioned on Page 2 if you continue to have problems. School returns on Tuesday 21st February, following the INSET day on Monday 20 th February. We hope that your children have a safe and happy half-term holiday. Library News We managed to raise 240 in commission to spend on new books for our school Library after the very successful Scholastic Book Fair held in school during December. Thank you to everyone who visited the library and bought a book! Year 7 at WAR! (With their times tables knowledge!) Year 7 forms are currently engaged in a tense and thrilling war to determine who deserves to be crowned Best form in Year 7. The battles have been fought strong and hard by a terrific number of soldiers from Year 7. Many pupils have been recognised as Super Soldiers; those pupils who are leading their forms towards victory and glory. With many battle rounds having taken place; the war is coming to an end. To the winners goes the official bragging rights and a Breakfast Buffet to celebrate their greatness. To the competitors left behind, well, what doesn t kill you only makes you stronger, and from this war we hope their times table knowledge is now much improved. Make sure you check out the next newsletter for full details of the competition including; recognition of the Super Soldiers, Medal of Honour winners and of course the official declaration of Best Form in Year 7! FAO All Hair and Beauty students full kits should be brought into school ready for every practical lesson and assessment

PE News Our students are proudly representing the school in a number of tournaments and championships around the county. We are very proud of all of them and wish them the best of luck in their endeavours. Murray Park Girls Netball Leagues All teams are now well under way in their season. Year 7 have especially hit the ground running and having lost their first game, drawn their second and won their third, it looks as if we should be creating a strong team for the future. All other year teams are performing well, most with wins under their belt and we are hopeful for some good placings in the final tables at the end of this term. County Schools Badminton Finals The girls had a very successful afternoon at the County Schools Badminton Finals at Etwall Leisure on Tuesday 7th February. Imogen Fowler, Megan Williamson, Megan Hodgkinson and Emily Blanchon came 3rd overall in Derbyshire missing out in the finals to Ecclesbourne and Hasland. This is a fantastic achievement for the girls. Table Tennis Tournament The successful Table Tennis season continues, with our players taking part in the Derby City Singles Tournament. With only four spaces available, our players had to compete against each other in a bid to represent the school. With Jerome Smith, Sam Dilkes, Reuben Norman and Jake Cooper performing particularly well in the qualifiers. The City Championships were hotly contested with the top four players claiming an invite to represent the city. After seven rounds of action, Jake and Reuben were successful and will now move onto the County Championships in Chesterfield. The school would like to wish them the best of luck.
