Reminder The School Canteen is closed tomorrow Prayer for ANZAC Day God of love and liberty, we bring our thanks this day for the peace and security we enjoy, which was won for us through the courage and devotion of those who gave their lives in time of war. We pray that their labour and sacrifice may not be in vain, but that their spirit may live on in us and in generations to come. That the liberty, truth and justice which they sought to preserve may be seen and known in all the nations upon earth. This we pray in the name of the one who gave his life for the sake of the world, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Dear Parents Thank You This will be the final newsletter for term one. We certainly have had an extremely busy term. As well as our usual learning programmes and school activities we have had Parent Teacher meetings, Parent/Teacher interviews, Easter celebrations, St Joseph s Day, swimming carnivals, Lapathon, and other co-curricula activities. Thank you to our school community for all your contributions during this term. A special thank you to the School Board and the P&F for their continued support for the school this term with so much being achieved. Beginning of Term Two A reminder that term two for students commences on Tuesday 1 May. Students are required to wear their school winter uniform.

School Improvement St Joseph s has a genuine commitment to continuous school improvement. Each year we develop an Annual School Improvement Plan and a Pre K Year Two Quality Improvement Plan. In our ASIP we set smart goals under the acronym LEAD which stands for Learning, Engagement, Accountability and Discipleship. It is only through a strategic approach to school improvement that we can maintain the high level of education that our students enjoy at St Joseph s. One element of our ASIP for 2018 was the introduction of One to One devices for our Year Four and Five students. We acknowledge that the incorporation of IT as a learning tool is essential for 21 st Century learning. We look forward to term two and the use of One to One devices in our Year Four and Five classes. As with all innovations, it will be a gradual process and we look forward to working with families during this time. Making Jesus Real I was fortunate to enjoy morning tea on Tuesday with the students selected from each class for showing the Spirit of Jesus during the school term. The students are to be congratulated on their excellent conversation and great manners. Congratulations to the following students who received the term one award. Ari T (KS) Remi S (KR) Isabelle H (PPM) Zavier F(PPP) Giorgia P (1K) Francisco L (1S) Ciara C (2D) Ryder T (2L) Alex K (3M) Solomon R (3R) Kaiden H (4R) Isabella B (4T) Shanae T (5J) Zahli D (5M) Fadzai M (6H) Mikayla A (6S) St Joseph s 100 Club Congratulations to our runners who participated in the HBF 3 Waters fun run last Sunday. The St Joseph s team won the perpetual trophy for the school section. Fantastic achievement from the team. Easter Egg Basket Donations Our Head Girl Una G, Head Boy Sebastian H and Student Council President Sienna K presented Easter egg baskets to St John of God Hospital and the Bunbury Soup Van on behalf on the St Joseph s community. Many thanks to the St Joseph s families for their generous donations and to the P&F for organising the baskets.

Staff Mrs Louella Temple will be on Long Service Leave from 30 April to 29 June. During this time Mrs Julietta Strano will be teaching in Kindy T. Enjoy a wonderful break Mrs Temple. New Community Members We welcome Jye S (Year 3R) and Mason T (3Yr Olds) and their families to St Joseph s. We hope you all soon feel a part of the St Joseph s school community. Congratulations Congratulations to Maddie B (3M) for her selection in the BMX team to represent Australia at the upcoming BMX World Championships in Baku, Azergajan (near Turkey). This is an outstanding achievement and we look forward to hearing of your successes. Well done Maddie. T-20 Cricket Last Thursday, our students from Years Five and Six participated in the interschool T-20 cricket matches. It was a big day for the students and they are all to be commended on the excellent sportsmanship and cooperation demonstrated on the day. Thank you to the staff and parent helpers who managed the teams on the day. Confirmation Last Saturday was the Enrolment Mass for our Confirmation Candidates. The parent meeting for Confirmation was held last night. Please keep the candidates and prayer friends in your thoughts and prayers as they take this important step on their faith journey. ANZAC Day Services All families are invited to attend the Bunbury ANZAC Day Parade and service on Wednesday, 25 April. Our student leaders will be representing the school and marching in the parade. All students are invited to wear their family s war service medals to the service. Thank you to Mrs Olsen for coordinating and supervising the students. Mr Presser will lead our school service on Friday, 4 May. Footy Great to see two wins from the Eagles and the Dockers last weekend. The Eagles versus Geelong was certainly an exciting game with changes in dominance constant. Fortunately the Eagles prevailed at the final siren. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday break. God bless Riley Horrocks Principal. Calling all home reading books Thank you to all the families who have diligently returned all the reading books our students took home this term. Mrs Cartledge and Mrs Dickinson have carefully checked off book titles and reorganised our home readers. Unfortunately, we still have a large number of books outstanding. If you realise you have forgotten to return a book or discover one hiding in a corner of the house, please return it to the school as soon as possible. By looking after our resources we are better able to support our students as they develop their literacy skills in these vital early years. Make Jesus Real As you are aware, this week we celebrated our I spy winners with a morning tea with Mr Horrocks. These students were identified for letting the Spirit of Jesus shine in a variety of ways and are great examples for the rest of us. They remind us that our behaviour is influenced by our attitude and show it by being cheerful, cooperative and taking the good with the bad. Including, complimenting and encouraging others is something they do regularly. And they make people feel special when they greet them, treat them with respect and say sorry when necessary. It s worth asking ourselves to identify at least three positive behaviours in the people around us. This helps us appreciate others and try to be our very best. Mrs Olsen Assistant Principal
