VOL XXXV BULLETIN FRIDAY 8 TH JULY, 2016 No. 27 EID-EL-FITR: BUK Imams Enjoin Muslims to Imbibe Ramadan Lessons T he Chief Imams of Bayero University New and Old Campuses, Professor Auwal Abubakar and Sheikh Abubakar Jibril respectively have enjoined Muslim community to imbibe the lessons of the month of Ramadan, saying that Ramadan is a famous school that taught several lessons of immense importance. Professor Auwal in his sermon said Muslims have been demonstrating faith in God throughout the month of Ramadan by refusing to do many unlawful acts that were being done in the other months while observing their fasting in order to obey the Almighty God. He said one way a believer would understand that his faith had been accepted was his ability to continue with his worship to God and demonstrate good lifestyle. He listed the lessons of Ramadan to include endurance, perseverance, assisting the weak ones and such other numerous lessons. Professor Auwal urged Muslims to change for good their lives and to visit friends, family members and other Muslim faithful, advising them not to rely on phone calls. He also urged Muslims to continue to pray for their leaders for them to make life meaningful to the people. He called for the unity of Muslims to be able to succeed and appealed to them to help one another, saying the ability to assist the poor and needy during the month of Ramadan should be sustained. Sheikh Abubakar Jibril in his sermon urged Muslims to cater for their family, neighbours, friends and relatives, saying that you don t have associates more than your family members. He recited a saying of the Prophet Muhammad which appeals to the people to provide good care to their neighbours, amongst others. He further enjoined Muslims to be committed to the recitation of the Holy Qur an, putting its teachings into practice and be committed to the unity of all Muslims across the world. Bayero University Bulletin reports that Sheikh Abubakar Jibril centred his sermon on the lessons of Ramadan, kindness to family, neighbours and dedication to the learning and recitation of the Holy Qur an amongst others. The Committee also approved the extension of one candidate for study fellowship as well as conferences/workshops for non-teaching staff.

4 b) That cases of administrative staff in various Faculties/Departments should be routed through the Registry Departmental Appointments and Promotions and General Purposes Committee. c) That cases of Bursary Staff/Stores Officers in various Faculties/Departments should be routed through the Bursary Department. d) That cases of Librarians and Library Officers in various Faculties/Departments should be routed through the University Librarian. e) Cases of Academic Staff must pass through the Departmental and Faculty A&PC and Minutes of meeting of the Faculty Appointments and Promotions Committee should be attached to the recommendations. f) Academic Staff on approved Study Fellowship could be promoted up to the rank of Lecturer I or equivalent, provided that he/she would not be promoted twice in one study fellowship period. g) All submissions should be strictly based on the extant guidelines for the appropriate cadres. h) Faculties, Departments/Units are to forward twelve (12) copies of their submissions to the Director, Establishment Matters not later than Tuesday, 26 th July, 2016. REMINDER: 2016 Junior Staff Promotion Exercise This is to remind faculties, departments and units to submit to the Junior Staff Office their recommendations for the 2016 annual promotions of Junior Staff in their Faculties, Departments/Centres/Units. As usual, Heads of Department are requested to note the following guidelines: 1. The candidate(s) being presented for promotion should be a confirmed staff and must be qualified academically and professionally. Such staff must have demonstrated exceptional performance meriting promotion. 2. He/she must have served the University for at least 3 years after his/her last promotion. 3. He/She that has spent two years and seven months is deemed to have spent 3 years. 4. Candidate(s) for promotion to the rank of Caretaker must have at least three (3) credits in SSCE/GCE or its equivalent. 5. Trade Test Certificates from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity can be presented where applicable. 6. A member of Staff on study fellowship or who has been granted study fellowship this year could be presented for promotion.

5 7. Staff member with a warning letter in the last 6 months should not be presented for promotion. 8. All re-designation cases (upgrading, change of cadre and conversion) should not be presented at the Junior Staff A & PC; instead it should be directed to the Registrar. 9. Departments should not re-submit cases for promotion which were earlier rejected without acquiring the needed relevant qualification. 10. Staff members with the following qualifications are allowed to present their submission for promotions: i. Certificate in Public Administration ii. Professional Diploma in Computer Studies (of at least six months duration) from recognized institutions iii. Clerical Officer Certificate iv. Assistant Library Officer Certificate v. Certificate in Science Laboratory Technology vi. Military Police Special Investigation Course III 11. All Chief Porters on CONTISS 04 are regarded as Senior Porters and for those who have stayed up to three years on that position can present their submissions for consideration to the rank of Chief Porter on CONTISS 05, if the candidate meets the minimum requirement of three (3) credits in WAEC, GCE or its equivalent. 12. Ten (10) copies of the attached forms should be completed and submitted in respect of each candidate. 13. All submissions and recommendations are to be submitted to the Junior Staff Office on or before 15 th July, 2016. Late submission would not be accepted. NB: Officers presenting candidates for promotion shall be required to come and defend their submissions before the Junior Staff A&PC with their departmental files and photocopies of relevant credentials on the scheduled date. 11 Call For Nomination-UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Price for the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education 2016 The UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa prize for the use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education (2016) has created platform for exhibition for candidates who have capitalized on their technological and innovation skills to enhance teaching and learning especially in the use of ICT to facilitate education to the disadvantaged. To this end, applications from interested and qualified persons are invited into the 2016 UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa prize for ICT. All for UNESCO on or before 30 th of September, 2016.
