Royal Russell Junior School Bulletin Autumn Term

Mr Thompson Dear Parents, In Assembly on Monday morning I had to eat a large slice of humble pie in relation to my weekend rugby predictions, however it did give me the ideal opportunity to talk to the children about how important it is that we deal with disappointment in a positive manner as we can t always be winners. Year 2 wings and Year 5 maths investigations have been on my lesson observations this week and once again I was delighted with the standard of the work and of course the high quality of teaching in both sessions. On the subject of quality teaching I wonder how many of you would teach your children to drink hot drinks whilst driving and texting / talking on your mobile something I m afraid I see all too often on the morning school run. I am very much looking forward to the inaugural HM s lunch next week and hope that many more of you will take up this opportunity in the future. Good luck to our U11 boys football team who are competing in the qualifying round of the ISFA tournament tomorrow and to our U9 hockey girls and Biathletes who are also involved in competition this weekend. Enjoy the weekend. Best Wishes

Drop off and Collection Information We are delighted to offer all children a comprehensive range of options for co-curricular activities and continuous care. To help ensure all children are safely supervised at all times please see the information below. Our school opens at 7.45am for those who are booked in for Breakfast Club. Children who are not attending Breakfast Club can be dropped off with staff on the playground or for Nursery children, the Early Years Centre from 8.15am. The Lower Junior class day ends at 3.15pm. Any children who are not collected or are not going to clubs will be taken to Crèche and the full charge for this this will be added to your account. Lower Junior Clubs end at 4.15pm. Any children who are not collected will be taken to Crèche and the full charge for this will be added to your account. The Upper Junior class day ends at 3.30pm. Any children who are not collected from the Upper Junior Quad or are not going to clubs will be taken to Prep. Please ensure children know in the morning whether they are staying for Clubs, Prep or Tea, a note in the homework diary may help remind them at times. Prep and Upper Junior Clubs end at 4.40pm. Any children not collected at 4.40pm will be taken to Tea in the Dining Hall without exception. Children return from Tea at 5.30pm and will be supervised until school closes at 6pm. Please bear in mind that particularly as it gets darker, we cannot send children out of school until we can see a parent waiting for them. Children are required to say good bye to staff when the person collecting them arrives to maintain a positive handover. Thank you for your kind cooperation in ensuring all the children are safely handed over at each end of their school day.

A Request from the Medical Centre All medicines must be handed to the Medical Centre with an accompanying consent to administer. Please do not put any children at risk by sending medicines to school with your child.

Our Lower Junior pupils, as well as those in Years 5 and 6 learning Spanish, also enjoy fun and interactive lessons using linguascope.com to which we still subscribe. The username remains rrschool but the new password this year is picasso It would be really helpful if Year 5 and Year 6 children could use this website to practise their French and Spanish regularly at home (at least once a week) or even on the go during the holidays as you can download the free app! The most adventurous ones could even try a bit of German or Italian in their free time!

All entries should be on A5 paper or card and can be portrait or landscape. Please note that all parents must sign in at the Senior School Reception on their arrival.
