Board of Education Yadkin County Schools Yadkinville, NC A regular meeting of the Yadkin County Board of Education was held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 6:00p.m. at the Board of Education. Closed Session #18-082 On motion by Hemric, seconded by Crews, the Board entered closed Closed Session: session at 6:00p.m. for reasons 1-9. #18-083 On motion by Yale, seconded by Weatherman, the Board recessed closed Recess Closed session to return to open session at 7:05p.m. Session: Public Comments: Keith Pavlansky spoke to the group and asked that they consider changing our campuses from gun free zones and allow guns to be carried on the campuses. In addition, he spoke concerning bathrooms and transgender students asking that we create a resolution regarding this. The Board reviewed upcoming Staff Development Webinars.

Discussion Agenda 1. The Board reviewed the September Schedule of Activities. 2. Dr. Martin stated has been sending the Board of education email updates on Fridays and stated he would continue to do this if they wanted this. He also stated that we now have security monitors at Forbush High School and Starmount High School and has nothing but good things from people in the community concerning this extra security. In addition, he stated Forbush Middle School and Starmount Middle School are locked down more securely, as well as the Yadkin Success Academy. He stated it has been a smooth two weeks and that he expected hiccups with the new administrative changes. Lynn Allred asked if someone goes to one of the two high schools with security monitors would they ask what he was doing there. Dr. Martin stated yes and they would instruct you where to park and radio the office you are on the campus and why you are there. He stated that the monitors were provide training on how to handle things and being professional and helpful. 3. Riley Warfel stated that the Forbush High Volleyball Team is doing well and that hopefully they can win the conference. She also stated they had a fundraiser for Sarah Hutchens and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and had a big community turnout. 4. Erica Castillo-Duran stated they don t have organized sports team; however, they do have clubs that have tournaments (quiz bowl, etc.) and this will be held next month. 5. Howard McKnight thanked everyone for being at the meeting and stated the next meeting would be held on October 1, 2018.
