Creswick North Primary School Persistence Respect Initiative Determination Excellence Newsletter No. 6 24th April 2018 Principal s Report On Monday we completed a very successful Sports Day at Llanberris. All students tried their best and it was great to see smiles on faces. We had some senior students who came away from the day with ribbons, including a couple of firsts. We now wait to see who may progress to the next stage. For our juniors the format was different from past years, with a tabloid sports theme. This appeared to run very well and by all reports was quite successful. As with anything new, there are always tweaks which can be made and I am sure these will be discussed at future meetings. Thank you to all staff and parents who assisted on the day, as without this help these experiences for our students cannot exist. We have been involved in many ANZAC Services this week. On Tuesday our Year 4-6 students spoke extremely well and it was great to see a number of families attend. On Wednesday morning Isabelle, Beau and myself, attended a service at Kingston. Beau was involved in reciting The Ode and they both laid a wreath. At Creswick, it was great to see so many students and families representing our school in the march. Jordy and Isabelle recited a poem while Beau and Kade laid a wreath for us. Thankyou to Mrs Baulch, Mrs McLennan, all students and families who attended. The sense of community displayed at all these ceremonies was great to witness. Well done to everyone! Lastly, swimming continues next week, every Wednesday until the end of term. If you can get the chance to come and watch, lessons begin at 11:30am and go until 12:15pm. Principal Marcus Murrell Assembly 30th April Important Dates Wednesdays 18th April to 27th June. MARC Van At the completion of our lessons on Democracy, Citizenship and Rights, we played a Hamburger Game in class called Build a Burger. Ask your children some of these questions and see if they can remember some answers. MARC Lessons Quick Quiz What 3 things make a Good Citizen? What is Democracy? Why are there jails? Who deals with citizens who can t follow the rules? Where does the Government get their money? What are some of the rights of an Australian Citizen? Who is able to vote in an Australian Election? What official document do you need to travel outside Australia? What ways can you become an Australian Citizen? Mrs Bawden - MARC Teacher Foundation/1 Classroom The School Sports on Monday provided a variety of tabloid activities for the children in the lower grades. The events were new to both staff and students. However, the children rotated and joined in using a variety of skills for the many activities. The children reported that they enjoyed participating and that they thought that the activities were fun. Next week Foundation/1 will have two Federation University Pre-Service teachers working in the classroom with the children. We welcome Ms Ann-Marie Seare and Mr Jordan Smith for their first round in a classroom. A focus for this term will be for the children, particularly in Year One, to work on writing Recounts using a prescribed format. Recounts tell of events that have happened and can be personal, factual or imaginative. Foundation students will be focusing on improving their High Frequency word knowledge. This will greatly assist children with their reading. A laminated list of words will be sent home with each child in Foundation to practise each night.

Tabloid Sports Day Creswick North Primary School - Quality Education In A Caring Environment

Year 2/3 Classroom Welcome back to Term2. We have a lot planned and already, we have had an action packed first two weeks! Students have been learning all about ANZAC Day and its significance. They have researched the symbols associated with ANZAC Day and contributed their ideas for our classroom display. It was wonderful to see so many of our students taking part in the ANZAC Day march yesterday. Everyone did a wonderful job on the first swimming lesson day, remembering their swimming gear and getting changed in a timely manner. Well done!! The School Sports at Llanberris was a great success and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. Thank you to all students for showing great sportsmanship throughout the day. Regards, Katrina Baulch and Virginia McLennan ANZAC biscuits were good for soldiers because they lasted a long time. Amelia The bugle gets played on ANZAC Day and we remember the soldiers. Max R A wreath is put under flag poles to remember the soldiers. Castro The Rising Sun badge was worn on the slouch hat. Lachlan Lest We Forget means we should not forget the soldiers. Connor The wreath is to remember the soldiers and usually has Lest We Forget on it. Emmy The bugle is used for playing the Last Post. Maddyson Poppies were one of the first flowers to grow back after the war. Lachlan The soldiers got a special song at the end of the day. Max M Lest We Forget is for the people who passed away so we don t forget. Tahni ANZAC biscuits were good because they didn t go mouldy. Jett Rosemary was found growing where the ships landed at Gallipoli. Zali The Red Cross means the nurses and doctors who looked after the soldiers. Kaley When The Last Post gets played, you should stand still. Casey Wreaths are put under the soldiers names on memorials. Aiden

Year 4/5/6 Classroom Mr Mooney s Mumbles This term has certainly started with a bang with the commencement of the school swimming program, the Kingston Memorial Project excursion last Friday and our school student led ANZAC Service on Tuesday. The Kingston Memorial Project excursion saw the students walk to the local RSL to learn about the various types of memorials we have to commemorate our service men and women. Paul and Alan gave an engaging account of wartime history with a particular emphasis on local service members. Students studied old school honour boards from around the district taking pride and place on the walls of the RSL. We then visited the Museum with many students seeing the exhibits for the first time. I thoroughly recommend a visit if you have not already done so. Students then bussed to the Kingston Show Grounds where they listened and watched a Light Horseman saddle up his horse. They were also exposed to an old hawker named Percy. Percy owned an old restored Hawker Truck and showed students his menagerie of sellable goods from the 1940 s. Finally, students visited the Kingston Avenue of Honour and completed a research task based around a tree of choice. Students certainly enjoyed the day and learnt a lot about local WW1 history as a result. Next Wednesday I will be taking our school leaders to the GRIP Leadership Conference for Primary School students. Notes went home on Tuesday and I need those returned as soon as possible please. Finally, congratulations to the entire senior grade for putting together the school ANZAC Service on Tuesday. They did a wonderful job, even with last minute technical issues.
