Outstanding Academics An IWA education doesn t just meet requirements it blows right past them. Here, young women are encouraged to stretch outside their comfort zone, to achieve and exceed their goals, and to try new things. Faculty and staff guide each student in selecting a course load that not only fulfills their educational needs, but suits their talents and feeds their passions. Whether it s an interactive class blending discussion and technology; one of the many college credit courses; or one of our extraordinary fine arts offerings or electives, the curriculum is designed to challenge each student to her greatest potential. IWA students work for more than just grades they work to grow and be enlightened. I am extremely close with the faculty at IWA, because each teacher listens and understands. Unparalleled Preparation IWA students and graduates rave about the unique, modular college-prep schedule. Within a 10 lettered day class rotation, each school day is arranged into 16 mods, or blocks of time. Most classes take up two mods; some classes take three or four. Other mods are open labs. Students are expected to proactively manage their time to work on assignments, seek extra help from faculty, or consult with other students on projects. The responsibility created by this open, flexible schedule makes for a seamless transition. IWA grads arrive at college with an edge already knowing how to collaborate, structure their downtime, and initiate discussions with professors, because they ve been doing it for years. IWA embraces differentiated instruction by a range of methods including open discussions, online research, collaborative learning, and hands-on experience. An IWA student doesn t need outside pressure to find a desire to do well. An IWA student has a desire from within to achieve. Amy Shupe Mathematics Faculty

Living the Mission At IWA, our mission and commitment to spiritual development infuse daily life. We challenge ourselves to raise the consciousness of our school community, to respect and celebrate cultural diversity, to work for peace and justice, and to respond to those in need. We consider ourselves a family as well as members of the world at large, and our demonstration of faith reaches well beyond our school doors. All students make a commitment to community service, and most exceed the requirement of 120 hours. As part of our nine-day Junior Service program, juniors are matched to a volunteer site and spend concentrated time helping the needy according to Christ s model. Through service, all IWA students gain invaluable perspective, maturity, and independence through this experience. That feeling of connection to each other and the community goes with IWA grads for the rest of their lives, often compelling them to return as alumnae supporters of the school. You can see this in action at events such as the Spring Boutique fundraiser, the annual golf tournament, our Hall of Fame inductions, and Homecoming Celebration. To actualize the saving and healing love of the Incarnate Word by promoting human dignity. Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word I have found that our students genuinely care about others in their community and continue on as young women and adults to have a far greater degree of concern for their fellow community members in society. Bryan Villmer, English Faculty Our student mentoring network groups girls into families, going beyond simply big sister / little sister to connect girls across different grades with each other for guidance and friendship. Each month at mass, student and faculty Mission Models are recognized for how they live our mission in their lives and at school. This award is considered a great honor.
The family atmosphere and all the school spirit are amazing. This is my second home. Konner, 15 Location Nestled in the village of Bel Nor, in the Greendale neighborhood, IWA shares a lovely setting with the University of Missouri St. Louis. The area is ideally suited to serve as home to our school; and our staff, faculty, and students enjoy all the beauty and safety the area has to offer. Our campus sits across from the Normandie Golf Course on a tree-lined street, and we have a warm relationship with our residential neighbors. Much as they would be on a college campus, students are responsible for navigating among IWA s three buildings for class and open labs. The Bel Nor police force are friends to our community and drive by regularly. Convenient to the highway for those who drive to school, IWA also offers the Red Knight Express, a bus service that makes several stops in St. Charles county to pick up and drop off students each day.
