Balliang East Primary School Newsletter Volume: 9 Issue: 27 Welcome: I hope everyone had a great break. We have a busy term ahead of us with our usual Term 4 activities Adventure Park excursion, sleepover, Swimming program, Christmas activities, Grade 6 Graduation and Carols night. We also have some extra excursions planned including a trip to the movies next week, an excursion to Geelong to see a Magic Show and a visit from Messenger Dogs. In amongst all this we still have plenty of learning and assessment to fill in the rest of the term. The staff will be writing end of year reports, which will be given out in the last week of term. This term we welcome a new student. Kauri and Tara s brother, Toko, has joined us. Toko s enrolment brings our total student numbers to 56. This is the highest ever enrolment in the school s history. Thank You: Thank you to all the staff for keeping the ship afloat while I was away for the last two weeks of Term 3. A special thank you to Mr Yeatman for doing the Acting Principal role for me. Thank you to Dianne Taylor and Mrs Eley for helping to clean the outside of the Prep / Science room windows. Thank you to Denise Wessner for picking the new television up from JB Hi Fi. New Shed: Work has finally started on our new art shed. The concrete slab has been poured today and the frame will be erected next week. Once the shed is completed it will be lined and fitted out ready for use. This year s Carols night will be held under the new shade component of the shed. www.balliangeastps.vic.edu.au 10th October, 2017 Walk to School October: Yesterday was the beginning of our Walk to school campaign. It was great to see most of the students being dropped off at our meeting point. The walk will happen every day throughout October until Tuesday, 31 st October. The greater our level of participation, the higher our chance will be to maintain our winning streak for our region, so please make the effort to drop your child/ren off along School Rd each morning. Swimming Program: Swimming lessons are being held from the 27th November 1 st December at Melton Waves. All students are required to attend. If your child is unable to swim due to a medical condition, they will still need to travel to the pool as all staff participate in the swimming program. We are waiting for the cost to be confirmed. It is usually around $70 per student. Captain Underpants Movie: Next Tuesday, 17 th October, the students will be attending the Melton Cinema to see Captain Underpants as part of their reward for winning the Today show photo competition. We will leave school at 9:30am and return by lunchtime. There is no cost for this excursion. Please return permission forms this week. Our school has booked the entire theatre room for that day so there will not be members of the public sitting amongst our students. The students will be fully supervised at all times including to and from the toilet. As there is no charge for this excursion we will not be catering for individual students food preferences. There will be no alternative choice other than the popcorn and drink provided.
Car Park; Late last term there was a request for parents to be mindful of spaces between cars in the car park. This is not the first time that we have been approached by parents asking us to alert everyone to this. The argument is (and I can see both sides to this), that people have had their cars damaged by children who have opened the car doors into other cars. We are ultimately not responsible for the car park. It is a public parking space that is not connected to the school. If anyone is concerned with the way cars are parked they may like to approach the Council and request that they paint white lines - good luck with that! We cannot enforce parents to park within a certain distance of each other. Bacchus Marsh Flower & Garden Show: Our students have once again, been invited to enter plants in the Flower Show. All entries will need to be at school by Friday 27 th October. See the flyer below for the more information. The show will be on the 28 th 29 th October in the Bacchus Marsh Town Hall.
