Celebrating Community At All Saints Catholic School Volume 5, Issue 15 December 4, 2018 January Hot Lunch Online Orders Due Saturday Staff Announcement Dear All Saints Parents, It s hard to believe December is here and we are entering the joyous season of Advent! Each year the Catholic Church gives us an incredible opportunity for a powerful encounter with Jesus. The Church invites us during Advent to take a step back and look at who we are, what we are doing, and where Jesus enters into our lives. We have several staff updates to share. We have filled the the 5/6 math teacher position and welcomed Mr. Russ Facione to our staff community. Mr. Facione has taught at the middle and high school level and has served as an elementary school principal in public schools for 27 years. He also has experience running math intervention groups and implementing math professional development for teachers focused on math talks. He is thrilled to begin a new chapter in his career working in Catholic schools where he can share his faith within the classroom. After much prayer and reflection Mr. Eric Rothert has decided to resign his position at All Saints. He was offered another position and will be going back to work in the credit union field as a Business Development & Community Relations Manager. I know this was a very difficult decision for him and his family and we are truly appreciative of the amazing work he has done here at All Saints! He will be working through December 21st to help with the transition and we wish him all the best on his promotion and journey back to the business world. At this time we have asked Mrs. Michele Santillan to step into this role for the remainder of the school year. Michele s daughter graduated from All Saints last year and she has frequently helped us with marketing and advancement efforts. She has a B.A. with a double major in journalism and public relations and a M.A. in communications. As we prepare individually and as a community for His arrival, let us intentionally slow down our lives, spend time in prayer, and ready our hearts for the greatest gift of our lives Jesus. Nativity Night Returns All Saints is hosting Nativity Night from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018. The evening will begin with a Las Posadas-style procession, commemorating the journey of Mary and Joseph leading up to Jesus birth. After the procession, attendees can enjoy hot cocoa, cookies, crafts, story time, and the viewing of families Nativity sets. As with last year s event, students will be invited to dress as angels and shepherds as part of the procession. We ask each family to bring a dozen cookies to share during the event so everyone can enjoy treats with hot cocoa. We also encourage families to share their own Nativity sets by displaying them that evening. There is no cost to families to attend this event, but please RSVP we can anticipate the number of guests at www.allsaintscs.com/nativity. K-2, Band Concert Tuesday Everyone is invited to see the K-2 and Band Christmas Concert at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Students are expected to arrive and be in their classrooms by 6:30 p.m. God bless, Kristen Strausbaugh Growing Leaders in Mind, Body, and Spirit 48735 Warren Road Canton, MI 48187 www.allsaintscs.com (734) 459-2490 Office (734) 459-6873 Attendance

Girl Scouts Celebrate Holiday Season On Saturday, All Saints Girl Scouts marked the start of Advent and preparations for Christmas with a Mother-Daughter Tea. The celebration was a chance for girls and their female family members and friends to share a relaxing afternoon of fellowship and fun. In addition to enjoying hot cocoa and tea, finger sandwiches, cookies, and cupcakes, the girls made Christmas ornaments and played Christmas-themed games. www.allsaintscs.com www.facebook.com/allsaintscs

Classroom Happenings In social studies class, the 6th graders concluded their study of Julius Caesar by completing a CSI Investigation: Who Killed Julius Caesar? After analyzing multiple sources about different suspects with their fellow detectives, the students used the evidence they uncovered to draw their own conclusions about who was responsible for the demise of Rome s famous leader. Early Childhood classes enjoyed Career Days last week which included a visit from Mr. Keller, a firefighter, as well as nurses, dentists, police, detectives, and a chiropractor. Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents that took the time to teach us! Robotics Visits Mercy Lab Representatives from the All Saints robotics team had a chance to experience the world of First Robotics Competition high school design and programming in person. The Saturday morning visit to Mercy High School included a tour of the lab, an explanation of how a CNC machine works, and robot programming. There was even an opportunity to drive a kid-size robot used in a previous competition. Mrs. Kalkun and mentors from the Mercy High School Riveters robotics team organized the event. www.allsaintscs.com www.facebook.com/allsaintscs
