ISSUE 1 07 Sept 2018 Head teacher's Message A very warm welcome to our new and returning children and families; we hope you all had an enjoyable and restful summer break. I hope this will be a wonderful and successful year for all members of our school community and have enjoyed hearing all the positive feedback from teachers this week about their new classes. All information regarding school is available on our website: www.stpaulsceprimary.com; further information is also sent in texts, letters and on our blog where appropriate. We have lots of exciting lessons and activities planned for this term which we are sure the children will thoroughly enjoy. I thought it would be useful to list activities/lessons that will take place each week and to provide as many future dates for your diary as possible. School day Our school day starts at 8:45am and finishes at 3:15pm. If your child cannot attend school for any reason or will be late arriving, please contact the school office on 01274 679183 as early as possible. Your support in helping your children learn these is greatly appreciated. The following information is for years 2 to 6. Reception and Year 1 information about homework will be provided separately. Reading All children are asked to spend 10 minutes per day reading with their adult. Adults should focus on the child's understanding of the book by asking relevant questions about the characters and plot. Spelling Times tables and number facts Spellings to learn will be given out on a Tuesday and tested the following Monday. If you require any assistance applying for a school place please contact the school office. Permission to walk home from school Children in Year 5 and Year 6 are allowed to walk home from school unaccompanied as long as we have written permission from their parent/carer. Please contact the school office if you require a copy of this consent form. Road safety As we start a new school year, we would like to remind families to please ensure when dropping off or collecting children, you use our designated crossing areas and where appropriate park safely. Please remember: No parking on single or double yellow lines No double parking No stopping, dropping or parking on the School Keep Clear yellow zig zags No parking on corners or junctions especially near the school entrances Please do not block driveways Thank you for your cooperation Reminder: Change to uniform orders From September 2018, the school office will no longer be accepting orders for school uniform,or family hoodies, except for school ties or those in receipt of the uniform allowance. Please be aware family hoodies will no longer be funded for anyone eligible for uniform assistance. The office will be happy to provide any further information or assistance if required.
