GARRISON PIONEER PRESS November 23, 2011 From the Principal s Desk: Thanksgiving Week is a wonderful time to count the many blessings in our lives. When life seems really difficult, it can be hard to think about what s good and right in the world. Many of us face challenges both individually and as a community, but it is the attitude that we take into each of those challenges that helps us to overcome the obstacles in our way. I want to share how thankful I am to be able to lead a school that is childcentered, family oriented, and deep rooted. Garrison Elementary is a wonderful place to educate children because of all the hands involved. I am truly blessed to be placed here as every day at Garrison brings joy into my heart. I especially appreciate the Garrison staff and students who have shown me personally this family oriented generosity with their support through some of the obstacles we are facing as a staff and a community this fall. This is a time to be grateful for all the blessings in our lives. Thinking of all of you during this holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving! Building Knowledge, One Log at a Time! Garrison K-Kids K Kids Bell Ringers Calling all Bell Ringers! The K-Kids have volunteered and signed up to be bell ringers for the Salvation Army. We will be ringing bells at 2 locations: Marsh (on the westside at National Road West) and at Krogers (on the eastside) from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, November 28th and December 5th. Garrison needs 3-4 K-Kids to commit to 45 minute shifts at both locations. Ms. Schwartz and Ms. Barton will be at the locations for supervision allowing parents to use that time to shop, etc. We are thankful that our student service organization has chosen to visibly work to make a difference in our community. PTO News!

Reminder to parents: If your after school plans change, please try to call the school before 2:00 pm. Calling after that time creates difficulty in getting messages to students in a timely fashion. As times continue to be tough for all, please remember that Communities in Schools has a selection of community resources available to all families including lists of Food Pantry s and organizations that offer free meals. Please contact Melody Weikart at (765) 973-3431 and she will happy to assist you. Please be sure your students are following the outlined RCS dress code. It can be found on the RCS website or you can obtain a copy from the Parent Resource Site in the office at Garrison. Thanks. PTO is still collecting ink cartridges, box tops and Campbell Soup labels. Please send them in as you can. Please keep our office up to date with your student information. We should always be able to contact you throughout the school day in case of emergency. Thanks for your help! See the attached calendar for the school lunch menu. Just remember that it is always subject to change. School lunch prices will be $2.00 this year. Book Fees: If you have not yet paid book fees, see Mrs. Davis in the office. Newsletter Contest: Each student whose parents read this newsletter, may sign, clip, and return the bottom portion of this page to be placed in a drawing for a free item from our school bookstore. Our goal is to encourage regular communication from the school to home. Thanks for your participation.
