Hooghly, West Bengal, Vidyasagar Centre for Indological Studies, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Dear Sir / Madam, This is to inform you that of Raja Peary Mohan College, Uttarpara, Dist. Hooghly, West Bengal, Vidyasagar Centre for Indological Studies, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata would be organising a UGC Sponsored National Seminar on INDIA: THE COUNTRY AND THE STATE IN HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE" on the 5th & 6th of February 2010. It gives me immense pleasure to welcome and invite, on behalf of the Organising Committee, your institutions academic community for submission of full-fledged academic papers at the seminar. The accepted papers would be arranged for presentation in well-structured sessions. Apart from being confined to the theme, this call for full fledged academic papers is being sent all over India for paper submissions along the following broad thematic breakup State, Communi es and Ideologies The problem of studying State Colonialism and the agendas of making India a modern state The making of the constitution of independent India its reasons and pressures on the constitution after formation of the republic. Alternative models of State Role of state in some vital aspects of life Formation of early and medieval Indian states Indian state in the phase of liberalization and globalization Role of state in intensifying caste and communal problems

The Paper * Papers must be written within 5000 words * Abstract should not exceed 150 words * Bibliographic note in 1 Page following MLA Style Sheet or Chicago Manual of Style of formatting. The hard copy must be typed in 1.5 line spacing at least and accompanied by a soft copy in CD Rom for processing. The accepted papers would be circulated among the participants of the seminar before it begins. This is as per the requirements of the sponsoring agency. We are also making a wholehearted earnest effort to bring out a published volume of the entire seminar proceedings from a reputed indexed publication house. The Intellectual property rights on the published volume would be definitely discussed and settled priorly. Travel Expenses Paper presenters who are faculty of UGC recognised institutions are hereby requested to finance their travel expenses through UGC XIth Plan seminar travel
Page 3 of 5 grant entitlements. Please refer to UGC web site for further details on XIth Plan guidelines. Research Scholars who are full time Ph.D. students, Fellows / Associates and those who are not covered in the above would be reimbursed AC 3Tier Super Fast Express Train fares to and fro from the nearest railway station. Local conveyance by taxi to the guesthouse would be also reimbursed. Provision of Daily Allowance would be also made. 3. Boarding and Lodging Decent and comfortable stay on a double-room sharing basis has been arranged for the paper presenters at the guesthouse of a reputed social and educational institution. Boarding would be provided from the early morning of 4 th of February 2010 till the mid night of 7 th of February 2010. The guesthouse is within a distance of 3kms from the Conference Venue and to & fro conveyance from the venue would be also arranged. The stay would include both vegetarian and non vegetarian Break fast, Lunch & Dinner at the Guest House on the 4 th and 7 th of February 2010, Break fast and Dinner at the Guest House on the 5 th and 6 th of February 2010, and Lunch at the Conference Venue on the 5 th and 6 th of February 2010. Please Note: Due to infrastructural constraint we regret to announce that it would not be possible for us to reimburse travel expenses or to extend local hospitality to the outstation participants who would not be presenting papers. However, they are most welcome to attend the seminar if they can manage on their own. 4. Registration Charges There will be no registration charges for Paper Presenters. Research Scholars who are also full time Ph.D. students would not have to pay any registration charge. However, they should send in a bonafide certificate from the concerned head of the institution regarding their nonemployment status along with a covering letter by the date of early registration.
