Oakdale Avenue Medford, Oregon JOB TITLE: Classroom Teacher CLASSIFICATION: Certified SUPERVISOR: Building Principal JOB CODE: 1000 CONTRACT: 190 Days GENERAL STATEMENT OF AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES The classroom teacher provides for the maimum growth and development of each student assigned to his or her charge using diagnostic, prescriptive, and motivational techniques. This growth and development pertains to the students' academic, social, emotional, and physical needs. SUPERVISION RECEIVED The classroom teacher is directly responsible to the building principal and works cooperatively with district-wide supervisory and administrative personnel. SUPERVISION GIVEN The classroom teacher occupies a line position and thereby supervises students and personnel as directed by the principal. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional Duties 1. Diagnoses individual needs of students. 2. Establishes goals and objectives to meet the needs of individual students. 3. Provides guidance to students in his or her classroom. 4. Demonstrates sound judgment and emotional maturity in the development of classroom management and control procedures. 5. Utilizes a wide variety of meaningful and interesting instructional materials and activities. 6. Uses the power of incentive judiciously to reward effort and achievement. 7. Encourages critical thinking by students including higher level thinking skills. 1
8. Instills respect for law and order in each student. 9. Encourages each student to evaluate his or her performance. Non-instructional Duties 1. Meets and works effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people. 2. Contributes to the support, sponsorship or supervision of etracurricular activities. 3. Provides for proper care and storage of materials. 4. Maintains required student records. 5. Assists with budgeting in his or her building. 6. Supports and implements building and district regulations. 7. Encourages parent participation in school programs and activities. Professional/Ethical Responsibilities 1. Evaluates student progress according to building policy. 2. Teaches curriculum for the field to which he or she is assigned. 3. Evaluates his or her objectives and performances. 4. Increases epertise in his or her field. 5. Participates in development of district and school programs. 6. Participates in good faith in the teacher evaluation process. 7. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with coworkers, fellow employees and the public. OTHER FUNCTIONS 1. Performs other instructional non-instructional, and supervisory duties as requested by the building administration.
