Hilbre High School Humanities College Parents Newsletter 15 th January 2018 Week A Date Monday 15 th January 2018 Tuesday 16 th January 2018 Wednesday 17 th January 2018 Thursday 18 th January 2018 Friday 19 th January 2018 Event Year 11 interviews for students not applying to 6 th Form Welcome to the first newsletter of 2018 and Happy New Year! This week, all assemblies have focused on new beginnings with students encouraged to stop, think and decide upon the things that really matter to them as they move forward in their lives. They have been encouraged to reflect on who they are as people and how well they can relate to others; how well they can ensure they have the most rewarding time ahead of them. Of course, to encourage this thinking is relatively easy, whilst putting it into practice is much harder. As we enter the second term of the year, I expect all our students to grip their learning and drive it forward independently. At the end of the first term, the Progress Reports went out as the Monitoring came in. Despite positive Monitoring, it is clear that our students must continue to engage with the academic requirements of their education. Valuing hard work and doing hard work are central to the way we all must all be thinking this Spring Term. It is a short term. For Year 11s there will be a second Mock Examination Week in March. For students in every other year, making good progress must be the aim; proving it through the work completed must be the aim! We must all be in this together: student, teacher, school, home, parent, carer! Let 2018 be a year of success for each and every student at Hilbre High! Mark Bellamy Headteacher

YEAR 12 VISIT EDGE HILL UNIVERSITY This week all of our Year 12 students attended a Study Skills day at Edge Hill University. On arrival they went to a presentation regarding Higher Education and the opportunities available for them after Sixth Form. Following this, students had a full campus tour, which included a look at the Sports facilities, such as the gym and football courts, student accommodation and study areas. After a complimentary lunch, the students took part in study skills workshops and presentations, which were run by current undergraduate students. Our students commented that the experience had given them a positive insight into University life.
