BMC BUZZ! An occasional online news letter published by BMC AA and BMC DT VOL 02 N0 01 January 2016 The BMC Diamond Jubilee Celebrations went off quite well. Most people said so. All the programmes went off with clock work precision and the food was excellent. I only wish more of our Alumni had deigned to grace the occasion with their august presence. We had very eminent scientists who kindly accepted our invitation. Dr. H. Sharat Chandra, Honorary Director, Centre for Human Genetics and Professor Emeritus, IISc, Bangalore inaugurated the Continuing Medical Education Programme, and Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman, Space Commission, Secretary, Dept. of Space and Chairman, ISRO was the Chief Guest at the BMC Diamond Jubilee Celebrations and dedicated the BMCDTINFOSYS FOUNDATION BONE MARROW REGISTRY to the Nation. Dr. K.S. Ravindranath, Hon ble Vice Chancellor, RGUHS also graced the occasion and our own Dean/Director Dr. P.K. Devadass who presided over both the functions. This edition of BMC BUZZ is full of pictures, because they tell a story better than words. Dr. K M Srinivasa Gowda Editor I am very happy and pleased that the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of BMC went off very well. A BIG THANK YOU! I do not know where and with whom to start thanking all those who made the BMC Diamond Jubilee Celebrations possible and hopefully to the satisfaction and enjoyment of one and all. Though we all knew that the BMC Diamond Jubilee had to be celebrated in December 2015, there were many decisions to be taken. The most important one being what we should do to make the celebrations meaningful. The decision about the Bone Marrow Registry was taken in 2013. If the BMCDT INFOSYS BONE MARROW REGISTRY has actually become a reality, inaugurated and dedicated to the nation, thanks are due to Dr. K. Lakshman, who organised a dedicated band of active workers and volunteers to spread the word and enrol donors. In fact, Dr. Lakshman deserves our thanks for practically everything that we have been able to do over the years, be it the Digital Library, the Clinical Skills Centre and most importantly in getting the unwavering support of the INFOSYS FOUNDATION for all our endeavours. Our grateful thanks to Ms. SudhaMurty for trusting us to deliver. Dr. K S Sridhar who has taken up responsibility of HLA typing through CANCYTE deserves our gratitude. I must personally thank the Dean/Director of BMCRI Dr. P.K. Devadass. He helped and cooperated in every activity of ours unhesitatingly and with utmost sincerity. He actively participated in all our meetings and gave invaluable suggestions and advice. And he went out of the way to solve any problems that we came across. As the Chairman of the Organising Committee he was a pillar of strength we could lean on for support whenever we needed it. I thank the Vice Chancellor and Syndicate of RGUHS and for their generous grant towards the celebrations. I also thank the State Bank of India for their generosity. All the organising committee members have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the celebrations. The methodical and well organised Dr. R. Vathsala and the very meticulous Dr. T.K. Ramesh were most helpful in crucial areas. Special mention has to be made of Dr. H.H. Suresh who performed far beyond the call of his duties as Treasurer, and even enrolled the services of his father (!) in the renovation, painting and other works of the BMC Alumni building including the Seminar Hall. All the chairpersons of various committees have devoted a lot of their time in planning and implementing various tasks that were assigned to them. A special mention needs to be made of Dr. B.H. Natesh who came in somewhat late and took up the onerous task of editing the souvenir. Also my classmate Dr. Nirmala Gupta who used her personal contacts and influence in getting sponsors for the hampers. I thank Dr. T. Rajeshwari who was the Dean during the Golden Jubilee Celebrations and as the Joint Organising Secretary this time, worked tirelessly and with great enthusiasm in making this function a success. Credit and thanks are also due to Dr. Kala Yadav, Dr. AsimaBanu, Dr. H V Rajashekara Reddy, Dr. Basavaraja, Dr. Rajkumar, Dr. Suresh Babu, Dr. B.L. Sujatha and Dr. P S Thandava Murthy who fed all of us! Dr. A. Sumitra, an avid Philatelist, who took active interest in getting a commemoration cover issued by the Department of Posts. And Dr. C.S. Rajan who, despite his busy schedule and
impending Christmas, was gracious enough to conduct the quiz programme. Both deserve our gratitude. I am also grateful to all the staff at the BMCRI office, who cooperated with us in every conceivable way. This list will not be complete without our staff, Rathna, Suchith, Ramesh, Lakshminarayana, Chandrashekar, Shivaraj, Shivanna, Mangalamma and Kasturiamma. And I must thank our printer Mr. Chandrashekar of Abhinandan Printek who has probably suffered me the most. I conclude by thanking one and all for having given me the opportunity of serving as the organising secretary.
