Bharathi Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School 17 th ANNUAL DAY 2012 Principal s Report Bharathi Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School was inaugurated by His Holiness The Maha Sannidhanam of Sri Sringeri Sarada Peedam on 6 th June 1995. We started with only 36 students. Today we have 1398 on roll. Our 11 th batch of Class XII students appeared for AISSCE 2012 and recorded 100% results. R.Guru Raghav topped the Science stream with a score of 488/500 closely followed by R.Guru Praanesh who scored 477/500. R.Guru Raghav also had the distinction of being placed third in Tamil Nadu State in the AISSCE 2012. Monika S was the topper in the Commerce stream with a total of 477/500. Our 13 th batch of Class X students appeared for AISSE 2012 and recorded 100% results. Six students out of 40, Probal Nag, V.Gayathri, B.Srivatsan, R.Srivatsan, Satish Pandit and S.Rajarajan secured a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 10. 14 students have secured a CGPA of 9 and above. MERITORIOUS ACHIEVEMENTS In the International Maths Olympiad 2011, Priyadarshini K of Class I secured the first rank. She was awarded a citation and cash prize. Shreya Rajagopalan of Class III and R.Guru Raghav of Class XII were State toppers and secured Rank 1. WORKSHOPS ATTENDED BY OUR TEACHERS 1) Mrs. Lakshmi and Mrs. Vasanthi Ramachandran attended a two day workshop on 20 th and 21 st June on TEA( Teaching Excellence and Achievement) organized by PSBB Senior Secondary School, Nungambakkam. 2) Mr. D Muralidharan and Mrs. Akila Nagaraj attended a one day workshop on Teaching Methodology in Science for Primary and Middle School teachers at P.S Senior Secondary School, Mylapore on September 3, 2011. 3) Mrs. T Muthumani attended a one day workshop in Accountancy hosted by Chennai Sahodaya School Complex at Modern Senior Secondary School, Nanganallur on September 17, 2011.

4) Mrs. V Vasanthi and Mrs.Priya Prasannakumar attended a seminar on Projects in Social Studies teaching on November 18, 2011 at Hindu Senior Secondary School, Triplicane. 5) Mrs. Saroja and Mrs. Hemalatha had an enlightening experience attending a workshop Interpersonal Excellence by Mr. Surya Narain Bagadur, professional management skills trainer on November 24, 2011 at Sindi Model Senior Secondary School, Kellys. SEMINAR/WORKSHOPS CONDUCTED FOR OUR TEACHERS : Bharathi Vidyalaya held a guest lecture for teachers on January 1, 2012. Dr. Soundaram Ramaswami, eminent educationist and Assistant Professor in the department of Educational Leadership, Kean University, New Jersey was the guest speaker. SUBJECT PLUS SESSIONS : The school organized a personality development programme for seven sessions for students of Standard IX to XII. Mr. Ananthanarayanan of Alma Mater addressed the students on topics such as self belief, team work, self pride, right attitude, easy ways to learn and remember, leading a healthy life and passion for excellence. ANNUAL PROGRAMMES : 1) Health Programme : Dr. Sandeep Murali, Consultant Surgeon, VHS addressed the students of classes IX to XII on 29 th June 2011 on communicable diseases. 2) Annual Day : The 16 th Annual Day was celebrated on August 27, 2011 at our school campus. Shri S Mahalingam, CFO and Executive Director, TCS presided over the function. The Chief Guest of the function was Dr. Bala V Balachandran, Founder Director and Dean of Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai. An entertainment programme was put up by the students. 3) Excursion and Field Trip : Every year the school arranges enjoyable educational trips. This year they were taken to Guindy Park, Sai Baba temple, Kishkinta, Dakshin Chitra and Goa.

4) Childrens Day : The day was celebrated as Primary Day on December 3, 2011. Mrs. Hema Gopal, Vice President, TCS was the President of the function and Mrs. Lakshmi Srinivasan, Principal, P.S Senior Secondary School, Chennai was the Chief Guest. All the children of the primary section participated in the event. 5) Convocation Day : The convocation for UKG students was held on March 22, 2012. Ms.Kami Narayan, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Pre- Media Global was the Chief Guest. 6) Bharathi Science Expo : To mark the Year of Mathematics, the mysteries of Maths were unfolded in the Science Expo 2012 held on February 4, 2012. Shri R. Krishnaswami, Chairman, Vidya Bharathi Trust presided over the function and released the school magazine cum souvenir for the year. Chief Guest Shri D.T Sudharsana Rao, Regional Officer, CBSE, Chennai received the first copy of the magazine and delivered the keynote address. 7) Sports Day : It was held on 15 th October 2011 at the school premises. Mrs. Hema Gopal, Vice President, TCS presided over the function. Mr.Dinesh Karthik, famous cricket player was the Chief Guest. INTRA MURALS Intra School Culturals, conducted from 7 th to 10 th November, 2011 gave an opportunity to students to showcase their talents and develop team spirit. Events such as Shipwreck, Dumb C, Young Advocates, Block and Tackle were organized by the students of Class XI and XII. Mr. Sivashanmuga Raja, IAS, Collector of Kanchipuram distributed the prizes and certificates. BHARATHI CULTURAL WING : Leading artists are invited to school to promote interest in fine arts. Shri O.S Arun, Shri Girija Shankar, Shri Sikkil Gurucharan, Smt.Roja Kanna, Kumari B Suchithra, Shri Abhishek Raghuram enthralled the students with their performance. MATHS DAY : To identify and nurture talent in Mathematics and Problem Solving Ability, Maths Talent Test was conducted on Maths Day which was held on November 12, 2011 and prizes were awarded to the winners.

TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION : Teachers Day was celebrated on September 12, 2011. Shri P.C Ramakrishna, well known theatre artist and voice specialist was the Chief Guest. The management honoured four teachers for their good work. TATA INTERACTIVE SYSTEM CLASS EDGE PROGRAMME : In order to make the classroom learning experience more interesting and engaging, we have introduced TATA s Class Edge Programme for students of Classes VI to X. The programme was inaugurated on 6 th October 2011, on the Vijayadasami Day. The programme helps the students to understand abstract concepts in a better manner through the interactive learning content, animations, pictures and multi media demonstrations provided by TIS. AWARENESS PROGRAMME : The following programmes of national importance and social significance are celebrated with fervour. o National Integration Week. o Republic Day o Vigilance Awareness Week. SAFETY MEASURES : Traffic is regulated in front of the school. Buses are fitted with electronic speed governors. Two RO systems have been installed which ensure regular supply of safe and good quality drinking water to the students. We have a tie up with Annai Theresa Hospital in Medavakkam about 3 kms away from the school. In case of any emergency or accident, the child gets immediate attention and treatment, GLOBAL SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP : Bharathi Vidyalaya and Skyswood Primary School, St. Albans, UK were brought together by TCS and British Council for the Global School Partnership Programme. The objective of this programme is to increase young people s understanding of global issues, equip young people with skills and knowledge to become active global citizens and ensure young people s commitment to a more sustainable world.

STUDENTS WELFARE : Scholarships are awarded to those students who need financial help in pursuing their studies in the school. Every year nearly Rupees one lakh is made available to help the students with the help of philanthropists. All this good work has been possible with the cooperation of highly motivated group of teachers and we thank them profusely for the dedication and high sense of responsibility. Our sincere thanks are due in no small measure to the Board of Trustees for their able guidance and leadership and for the encouragement and cooperation of parents. Thank You.
