Mid-America District THE TRUMPET Winter 2016 Issue St. Casimir s Day Mass; Winter District Meeting and Luncheon Our Winter Meeting will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Pius X Church. The District Board will be our host. Our day will begin at 9:00am with our Annual St. Casimir s Day Mass. Our meeting will follow and then luncheon. St. Pius is located at 4314 South Oak Park Avenue, Stickney, IL 60402. At this meeting we will discuss this summer s upcoming national convention, our Fall Pilgrimage to Washington, DC and other district business. Lithuanian Independence Day Celebration Gary, Indiana The Lithuanian America Community, East Chicago Chapter and the Knights of Lithuania Council 82 Gary, Indiana will host their annual Lithuanian Independence Day Celebration on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the American Legion Post 66, 132 Wiggs Street, Griffith, Indiana. The celebration will begin at 1:00pm. The Keynote Speaker will by Dr. Rima Kasuba-Binder. Musical entertainment will be provided by Dr. Vilija Kerelis, soloist and Algimantas Barniskis. Following the program there will be singing and dancing. All are invite you to attend. The cost of the celebration is $15.00 which includes dinner, with kugelis, and the day s program. Hope to see you there and please feel free to invite your friends. Mid-America District Bowling Lithuanian Dance Festival The next District Bowling will take place on Saturday, March 19, 2016. As always we begin at 4:00pm at El Mar Lanes, 8435 South Harlem Avenue, Bridgeview, IL 60455. Please see the district calendar for future bowling dates. Come on out and bowl with us or cheer on your favorite district bowler. After bowling those who wish to head out to dinner as a group. As always, all our thanks to Sports Chair, Tony Armalis, for all his work in coordinating our bowling season. The XV Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival will be held this summer in Baltimore, Maryland on Sunday, July 3, 2016. A district sponsored bus was being considered but due to low interest this will not be possible.
Our Lady of Šiluva Monthly Mass Members are reminded that a monthly Mass in honor of Our Lady of Šiluva is said on the first Friday of every month at St. Pius X Parish, 4314 South Oak Park Avenue, Stickney, IL 60402. Everyone is invited to attend. The Mass is held at 7:00pm, in English, with the Šiluva Novena Prayers recited afterward. The next Mass will be on Friday, March 4, 2016. 103 rd National Convention Bus Information The Mid-America District will be sponsoring a bus from Chicago, IL to Binghamton, NY to attend this summer s National Convention. The bus would depart on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 and return on Monday, August 8, 2016. This will allow everyone the opportunity to attend the pre-convention tour, if they would like as well as allow everyone the chance to partake of all of Sunday's events. The cost of roundtrip bus transportation will be $150.00 per person for K of L members and $200.00 per person for non-members. Seating is limited so reservations will be first come first served. Attendees will be responsible for making their own hotel reservations with the convention s hotel on their own. Annual District Pilgrimage 2016 As this year marks the 50 th Anniversary of the dedication of the Our Lady of Šiluva Chapel at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, our annual pilgrimage will be to Washington to attend the 50 th Anniversary Mass which will take place on Sunday, October 9, 2016. A bus will be traveling to Washington from Chicago. The bus will leave the Chicago land area in the early morning, from St. Pius X Parish, Stickney, IL, on Friday, October 7, 2016, arriving late that evening. We will then overnight at Embassy Suites by Hilton Alexandria Old Town. Events will be planned for Saturday, which will be a free day to tour the Washington, DC area. We will then attend the celebration on Sunday at the Basilica. We will return to Chicago, IL, leaving in the morning on Monday, October 10, 2016, arriving in Chicago in the evening. Cost of the bus will be $100.00 per person for K of L members and $150.00 per person for non-members. The hotel rate will be $129 and the reservation number is 607-722-7575. (this is the same hotel as the 97 th Convention). The officers and members of Host Council 72 cordially invite you to join us for this year s proceedings and socials. In addition to our business sessions, we are planning some wonderful social activities for all that attend. These events include Friday evening s picnic at Mountain Top View; the Saturday Convention Banquet and our Sunday Closing Mass at the air conditioned Church of the Holy Family and farewell luncheon. In addition, lunch is included on Friday and Saturday. Please consider arriving early and taking the pre-convention trip on Thursday, August 4 th. We will have a full day including the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour, and a visit to the Anthracite Museum. Lunch will be at a fine restaurant in Scranton, PA, followed by a train ride at Steamtown National Park and then a visit to a local winery and microbrewery. Due to limited availability this tour will be first come, first served. The bus will depart the hotel at 8:30 a.m. and return by 6:00 p.m. We are sure that everyone who is able to take in this tour will enjoy themselves. Cost of this tour is $80.00 per person ($60 for Juniors) which includes admission to the coal mine tour, museum, train ride and lunch. The cost of the Convention is a bargain for early Registration at $200 per person and $100 per Junior. The cost of the ads / greetings / memorials for the Program / Ad Book are also reasonable.
