Auslan Lessons As you all know we have made the switch from Japanese lessons to Auslan lessons this year as part of the compulsory languages program. Auslan is being ran in all grade and the students are really embracing these lessons. Sitting in on these lessons is very rewarding as a teacher as the students are engaged, listening, participating and importantly very interested in the program. Ask your children to demonstrate some signs. They should be able to sign the letters of the name and animals as well as many other things. Swimming Program As you all know the swimming program is in full swing. Swimming is a vital part of our curriculum and as such is compulsory. In fact the Government have made a directive that every grade 6 student must be able to swim 50 metres freestyle. We are very lucky at Katunga as this program is so well supported and I would like to thank everyone who has assisted with the running of the program. The kids definitely love it and you can see a huge difference in their abilities from the start of the program to the end. Even if this program helps one person get out of a difficult situation in the water in their lifetime it justifies the program for every student. Please see below some happy, smiling faces of our students revelling in the water and once again thank you to all our helpers and to the teachers who allow this program to continue. 3 Thrive, Strive and Achieve

Swimming Fun Day Wednesday, 22 nd February Today we held the swimming fun day in Numurkah. The students really enjoyed the day and generated some house spirit. A report and the results of the day will be in next week s newsletter. Young Leaders Day A permission slip and information for this day was sent home with last week s newsletter. Can you please ensure that payment and the permission slip are back at the school as soon as possible. As discussed in the letter if you are experiencing difficulty paying for this please contact Scott or Andrea in the office to set up a payment plan. The day will be a very long one for the students. We are asking that parents get the students to Numurkah Primary School by 5.45am for a 6.00am departure. It should be an amazing day. The grade 6 students in 2016 spoke about the day all year last year. Parents Club Parents Club held a meeting on Monday. We discussed the forthcoming BBQ on Friday night as well as catering for the Interschool Athletics and the Easter Egg raffle. Further information about the athletic sports and the raffle will be in the coming newsletters. 4 Thrive, Strive and Achieve

STUDENT VOICE EASTER EGG RAFFLE The Junior School Council along with the Parents Club have proposed to conduct an Easter Egg raffle.
