Frymire, representing Phi Theta Kappa honor society, is a sophomore majoring in Arts and Sciences. A graduate of Thomas High School, she is the president of Phi Theta Kappa, a member of the Student Government Association and member of the Lady Jets basketball team. She is the daughter of Annie and Robert Frymire. Pekrul, a sophomore, represented Residence Life. He is majoring in Mathematics and is a Resident Assistant. He is a member of the Math Club, Phi Theta Kappa and Jet Band. The son of Gina and Cam Pekrul, he is a graduate of Kremlin-Hillsdale High School. Miss NOC Enid Tarren Land crowned the royal couple with the Queen receiving a tiara, a bouquet of long-stemmed red roses and a sash while the King received a crown and a sash. Coaches name NOC Tonkawa Student Athletes of the Week Jaclyn Smith, Alphonso Willis and Reggie Scurry are Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa basketball coaches picks for studentathletes of the week, for the week ended Feb. 5. Women s head coach Greg Krause said, For two games last week, Jaclyn averaged 21 points, 4.5 assists and 4 steals per game. Jaclyn has been playing very well offensively and defensively. She is scoring well and leading the team in steals. Her efforts have been very valuable to us. Smith is a 5 6 guard from Depew. A sophomore at NOC, she is a graduate of Depew High School. Jaclyn Smith According to Donnie Jackson, men s head coach, Willis averaged 12.5 points, 3 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game for the week ending Jan. 22, helping to lead the team to victories over Southwestern JV and a conference road win at Redlands. Scurry averaged 14.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game, shooting 57 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free throw line in two wins for the week ending Jan. 29. The Mavs defeated Eastern on the road 94-70 and Connors at home 87-80. Willis is a 6 2 shooting guard from Loganville, Ga. He is a freshman at NOC and a graduate of Grayson High School. "Alphonso is starting to take the necessary steps it takes to be a good college basketball player, Jackson said. He has been spending tons of extra time working on his game outside of practice and the results of his labors are starting to pay off, and I feel that deserves to be recognized. Scurry is a 6 7 power forward from Atlanta, Ga. A sophomore at NOC, he is a graduate of North Clayton High School. "Reggie has been a consistent performer for us all season long, Jackson noted. When he is on top of his game, he opens up many things for himself and his teammates." The next home action is the Homecoming game Feb. 6 against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m. for women and 7:30 p.m. for men in Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.

(Photo by John Pickard) Weiberg Scholarship awarded to Luqman Lundy Luqman Lundy was awarded the Northern Oklahoma College Jared Weiberg Endowed Scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year. The Jared Weiberg Endowed Scholarship was established by family and friends to help others achieve their goals. It is presented to a member of the Maverick Men s Basketball team whose qualities include a strong work ethic, loyalty, unselfishness, and a passion for basketball. Luqman of Edgewater, New Jersey, is the sixteenth recipient of this award and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. He is a sophomore student majoring in communications. NOC President Dr. Cheryl Evans and NOC Athletic Director Jeremy Hise presented the scholarship certificate to Luqman. Joining them are Jared Weiberg s parents Mick and Vina Weiberg, and Head Coach Donnie Jackson. The award was presented to Lundy just prior to the men s basketball game played at NOC Tonkawa Wednesday evening. Luqman Lundy s name will be inscribed on the memorial plaque, which will be displayed in the lobby of the Vineyard Library-Administration Building located on the Tonkawa campus.

Israel Group Tour 2017 opportunity announced The Israel Group Tour 2017 Trip has been approved for a Global Studies class this summer for 3 hours credit. The trip is scheduled for June 1-13. This tour is open to students, faculty, staff and the general public. Students can enroll for Global Studies credit. Rev. Steve McClaren, Grace Bible Church, Enid and NOC instructor, said, I would love to personally invite you to tour the Holy Land with me. This will be our 8th tour to Israel. We will tour 10 days-worth of sites in 12 days allowing us time to experience and enjoy the Holy Land. NOC extended testing center hours announced for mid-terms & finals week NOC Regents Meet at Tonkawa At their Jan. 18 meeting at NOC Tonkawa, Northern Oklahoma College Regents heard a presentation by Division of Nursing Chair Cammie Fast, approved a master lease real property project and approved a request for changes in academic service fees. Fast discussed Missouri Hope 2016, a three-day domestic disaster relief training exercise in October attended by 10 NOC nursing students at the Mozingo Outdoor Education Recreation Area. Students honed their skills as emergency responders to an F-5 tornado scenario, helping to set up a mobile hospital, perform night rescues and treat mass casualties. Fast noted that NOC accepts about 100 applicants to its nursing program yearly. The potential capital project for real property, which will be submitted to the state legislature for review, includes renovation of space in the Vineyard Library-Administration Building to develop a Cultural Engagement Center with emphasis on Native American students. Funding will be through the Master Lease program in conjunction with the Native American-Serving Nontribal Institution (NASNTI) Grant funding previously awarded to NOC. Changes in academic service fees included modest increases for materials in specified classes, testing service fees and other costs in various areas. A reduction was requested for the nursing background testing fee to reflect decreasing expenses in that area. The request will be forwarded to the Oklahoma State Regents of Higher Education for approval. Dr. Cheryl Evans, NOC president, noted that NOC is the second most affordable institution of higher learning in the state. She reported that Bert Mackie, vice chairman of Security National Bank in Enid, is the vice chair of Oklahoma Tomorrow, an organization formed by business leaders to educate the public and the legislature about the importance of adequately funding Oklahoma s colleges and universities to ensure a skilled work force. Dr. Pam Stinson, vice president for academic affairs, updated the Strategic Planning report regarding Northern s provision of student activities and student satisfaction with such activities. Dr. Rick Edgington, vice president for enrollment management, reported total NOC enrollment on Jan. 19 at 4,027 students with a total of 34,463 credit hours. Personnel actions included the retirement of Nancy Brown, print shop specialist, the hiring of Patti Bloom as print shop specialist and the resignation of Teri Ethridge as Boehme residence hall director. Anita Simpson, vice president for financial affairs, reported total net assets of $5,604,893.99 for the fiscal year 2016-2017 and presented December financial reports for the Regents approval. Regents also approved monthly allocation requests totaling $45,000 for various projects at Enid and at Tonkawa, as well as a request to purchase cafeteria furniture at Tonkawa. Present were Regents Linda Brown, Ponca City; Jeff Cowan, Ponca City; Stan Brownlee, Enid; and Chad Dillingham, Enid. The Board of Regents will meet Feb. 15 at NOC Tonkawa. We've sent 1,000+ students overseas to more than 30 countries on all seven continents. Our programs allow students to broaden themselves academically, personally, and professionally, and earn college credits towards a degree.
