It is a proud privilege for GIRIJANANDA CHOWDHURY INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY; the first non-governmental engineering institute in the state of Assam under the aegis of the Shrimanta Shankar Academy Society, to register as a member of ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education) in the year 2013, vide certificate number IM2284. The Institute successfully hosted the Regional Annual Students Convention, ISTE, Assam and Eastern States Section on 6th September 2014. Around 200 students from different technical institutions participated in this convention. Among these participants, around 60 percent of the participants from the colleges beside the host institution. Shri Pratapsinh Kakaso Desai, Vice President, ISTE attended and chaired the occasion as chief guest for the valedictory session. Prior to that, Prof. (Dr.) P. K. Goswami, ViceChancellor of Assam Science and Technology University, chaired the Inauguration ceremony as the Chief Guest. Mr. Bhaba Ranjan Sharmah, Chairman, ISTE Assam & Eastern states Section, ISTE and Prof. L. K. Saikia, Executive Council Member, ISTE has also attended the occasion. The convention started with the inauguration ceremony. At the very start, the students from various institutions are greeted at the host institution. It is followed by the felicitation of the dignitaries. The dignitaries and the student participants are greeted by him.
This followed by the speech of the Principal, GIMT, Guwahati. The Principal cited the importance of such kind of convention towards the academic excellence and for global competence. This is followed by the speech of the chief Guest for the inauguration ceremony, Prof. (Dr.) P. K. Goswami, Vice Chancellor, Assam Science and Technology University. Kalita, Principal, DBCET, ADBU, has followed the speech by the chief guest. He emphasized the importance of such conventions in this part of the country for the overall technological growth. He also enlightened the prospective of the theme of this convention. This inauguration ceremony is followed by the Tea-Snacks break. The competitions for the convention soon got started. The competitions for this Regional Convention are:1. Quiz Trivia Test - Maximum 2 members in a group. 2. Paper Presentation The Topic Transforming Technical Education to meet needs of Industry 3. Extempore Speech Around 20 technical topics selected for this competition.
1. Quiz Mr. Dipankar Kaushik (Quiz Master) Quiz Master addressing the participants during the Prelims Around 160 participants participated in the prelims for the Quiz Competition. 6 (six) teams were selected from the prelims. The Quiz competition continued for around 3 hours before it could complete before Lunch. 2. Paper Presentation: Judges: Dr. Sunandan Baruah (HOD, ECE, DBCET, ADBU) Dr. Ajanta Deka (Dept. of Physics, GIMT) Participant presenting his paper Around 10 groups from various colleges participated for this competition. Maximum four participants in each group were allowed. Well-framed reports and slides were presented in this competition.
3. The Valedictory session started after the Lunch. The session started with the felicitation of the chief guest - Shri Pratapsinh Kakaso Desai, Vice President, Indian Society for Technical Education. Then the judges are felicitated with the mementos. The Chairman, ISTE, Assam and Eastern States Section also been felicitated by the memento. Then the Chief Guest gave an enlightening speech for the upliftment of the technology and the prevalent modern scenario. This is followed by the speech of the Chairman, ISTE, Assam and Eastern States Section. Then the awards were announced and distributed. Then the Vote of Thanks was given by Dr. Buljit Buragohain, Dean Student Affairs. The Convention was then concluded by Tea-Snacks.
