F A T I M A C O L L E G E (Autonomous) Affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai College with Potential for Excellence Re-Accredited with A Grade by NAAC (3 rd Cycle) 65 th Rank in India Ranking 2018 (NIRF) by MHRD REPORT ON SWACHHATA HI SEVA From September 15 to October 02, 2018 As per the communication received from University Grants Commission (Ministry of Human Resource Development), The 8 units of National Service Scheme (NSS), Fatima College participated in Swachhata Hi Seva from September 15 to October 2, 2018 to invoke a spirit of cleanliness, plastic free environment among the students and in the surrounding villages. NSS units of Fatima College encourage students in eclectic community service activities by focusing on the development of the rural population in the near vicinity of the college. The eight units have been dedicatedly functioning towards the development of the adopted villages namely Kondayampatti, Thanichiyam, Kattakulam, T. Andipatti, C. Pudur, Ayyankottai, Chinnaaelandhaikulam and Sambakulam. NSS volunteers of around 810 students of Shift I and 200 students of Shift II were entrusted in implementing Swachhata seva program. Swachhata Hi Seva activities was planned and executed various events in the college, schools and in villages. NSS volunteers were involved in mass cleaning in public places. Waste collection drives and Door-to-door meetings were organized to impart the significance of plastic free and clean surrounding to the illiterate mass in the villages. Awareness campaigns on Swachhata, nukkad natak, folk song and dances were also performed to impart the role of swachh in the domestic places. Village level and School level rallies were organized to reinforce open defecation free (ODF) region. Detailed reports for the performed activities in schools and villages are as follows.

1. Sensitisation on Swachhata Hi Seva The Swachhata Hi Seva activities commenced in the Mary land campus on 15.09.2018. To reinforce the importance of clean environment, the nationwide objectives of Swachata Hi Seva were explained by program officers of NSS. Swachhata Seva Oath was taken by NSS volunteers and activities to be performed in schools and villages were planned. 2. Rally on Swachhata Seva, Nukat Natak on Swachh Campaign, Street play on Plastic free campus,skit on Clean Home, Clean India In view of creating awareness among the college students, NSS volunteers took up a rally carrying placards with swachhata seva slogans. The slogans carried messages on how the plastic free, harmless, Swachh environment can be created and maintained in Schools, college village s and domestic places. Also, a street play on Plastic free Campus was performed by NSS volunteers. A Skit on Clean Home, Clean India was enacted to impart their role in Clean India campaign.
3. Clean Campus campaign NSS volunteers involved in cleaning the campus and participating in Clean Campus campaign towards Swachhata Seva program. Library cleaning, laboratory cleaning, ground cleaning, canteen cleaning was done by the NSS volunteers and motivated their peers to maintain clean institution, clean home thereby clean nation.
4. Nukud Natak & Swachh Oath As a part of Swachh Seva activity, NSS volunteers visited Shanthi Vidhyalaya Middle School and performed a Nukud Natak on Swachh India and motivated school students to follow swachhata activities to have clean school campus. Also, swachh oath was taken by the school students as a token of realizing the importance of clean environment 5. Skit & Swachh Oath To accelerate the thrust of Swachh Bharat, NSS volunteers visited Sree Visalakshi Mill High School to tune the minds of the school students to maintain clean and plastic free campus. A skit on Clean India was enacted by the volunteers and students have taken oath and joined in the mission of Swachhata Seva.
6. Skit on Impact of plastic waste on climate change, Peace rally on Clean home Clean village & Swachh Oath A group of NSS volunteers went to Chinnaelanthikulam, a village in Alanganallur taluk to create a series of awareness program as part of Swachata Hi Seva campaign. Government Higher Secondary school students witnessed a street play on Clean home, Clean Village. A folk song imparting the harmful effects of open defecation was sung by volunteers and created an awareness to use toilets. Also, a skit on impact of plastic waste on climate change was enacted by the volunteers to realize the importance of plastic free environment. A rally was organized over the streets of villages to insist the rural folk on clean home, clean India. Finally, an oath was taken by school students and villagers to maintain a green and plastic free environment.
7. Natak & Street Play on Plastic free environment An awareness program on Swachh Bharat was organized by NSS, Fatima College in Sambakulam village as a part of Swachhata Hi Seva program. A natak and a street play were enacted to rural folk to impart the significance of clean and plastic free environment 8. Street Play on Consequences of usage of plastics & Village cleaning NSS students visited Pothumbu village and performed various activities. Street play was played by group of students highlighting the consequences of usage of plastics in day to day life. Volunteers demonstrated Swachh Village cleaning a government school and created a conducive environment for the government school students at Pothumbu. A door to door campaign was performed on No Plastics and solid waste management to insist the importance of clean environment. As a special effort, students sensitized the village women on Environmental Hygiene so as to lead a healthy life.
9. Door to Door campaign on No Plastics Women sensitized on Environmental hygiene. NSS students visited Thanichiyam village and performed various activities. Street play was played by group of students highlighting the
consequences of usage of plastics in day to day life. Volunteers demonstrated Swachh Village cleaning a government school and created a conducive environment for the government school students at Thanichiyaam village. A door to door campaign was performed on No Plastics and solid waste management to insist the importance of clean environment. 10. Rally on Swachh Bharath NSS volunteers and NSS coordinators of Fatima College actively took part in SWACCH HI SEVA activities at Kondayampatti. As a part of SWACCH HI SEVA, a rally was organised by NSS students along with NSS coordinators, raising slogans of Swachh Bharath and carrying the placards displaying messages to sensitize the students about clean environment and plastic free environment. Volunteers performed skit to free the country from the menace of plastic pollution, promote the usage of alternatives to plastics, usage of environment friendly materials like cloth bags & plates made of areca leaves.
11. Skit on Open defecation free environment & Door to door campaign A group of NSS students of Fatima College with their programme officer went to one of the adapted village of Fatima college, namely sambakulam village in Alanganallur taluk to create a series of awareness programs as part of SWACHH HI SEVA program. The program in the playground of Sambakulam government Higher Secondary School and was witnessed by the students of the school and the villagers. NSS volunteer gave a speech on the importance of cleanliness and hygiene stressing on the harmful effects of open defecation and dumping of plastics and other wastes in public places. At the end of the program the students went on a rally around the village raising slogans on cleanliness. Finally an oath was taken by the NSS students of Fatima College along with school students of sambakulam and promised to have a clean and green environment everywhere and take efforts to conserve water and make a green environment.
12. Nukud natak on Plastic free environment NSS students conducted nukud natak on Plastic free environment at T. Andipatti among rural folk. 13. Natak on Open Defecation free village NSS volunteers enacted a natak on open defection free village at C. Pudur. A group song composed by them related to clean environment and plastic pollution attracted the villagers.
14. Gandhi Jeyanthi Celebration: Speech On account of Gandhi Jeyanthi, NSS volunteers visited Kattakulam village. An awareness campaign followed by a motivating speech Swachh Bharat Mission among the public created an awareness on clean and plastic free environment. Fatima College joined hands in the nationwide mission of Swachh Bharat and implemented Swachhata Hi Seva activities in schools, college and villages from 15 September 2018 to 2 October 2018. Around 1000 entrusted volunteers motivated the minds of peers, rural folk, illiterate mass and created awareness on plastic free, open defecation free, clean environment. Students in schools and college and village people got benefitted by the activities of Swachhata seva program and continue the efforts to maintain clean society and clean nation. Events organised at various schools, villages laid emphasis on the following mantra for the welfare of the society. Swachh home, Swachh School/College, Swachh Village/City leads to Swachh Nation!!! Jai Hind!!!
