(Women s University) RESEARCH ENTRANCE TEST (RESET) 2012 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE RESEARCH ENTRANCE TEST FOR ADMISSION INTO M.Phil/Ph.D. PROGRAMMES Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam(SPMVV) provides facilities for research in several disciplines leading to the award of M.Phil/Ph.D. degree. Admissions are made in the concerned departments of the University College, and are restricted to women candidates only. A candidate is eligible to register for M.Phil/Ph.D. in the same or related subject/discipline in which she has Master s degree. No candidate will be allowed to register for a subject, which is not offered in the University at P.G. level. I. Ph.D. Programme Research for Ph.D. degree can be carried out on full-time or part-time basis. Full-Time Research A full-time research scholar with PG/M.Phil. Degree carries out full-time research for a minimum period of three / two years respectively putting in a minimum of 75% of attendance each year, either in SPMVV under a research supervisor, or in an institution recognized by SPMVV with an external guide from that institution and internal guide from SPMVV. The candidate shall not take up any other assignment. However, the candidate may work in the research projects of the respective research supervisors as Junior Research Fellows, Project Fellows etc. Part-Time Research 1. A Part-time research scholar carries out part-time research under a research supervisor from SPMVV, while discharging her duties associated with her job in a recognized academic / research / professional / relevant institution or department. The candidate must work for her Ph.D. for a minimum of four years during which she has to put in a minimum attendance of four summer vacations/four months in SPMVV. 2. The candidate may also register for Ph.D in SPMVV with an external guide. In such cases, there shall be an internal guide from SPMVV. The external guide has to be recognized by the Board of Research Studies (BORS) and also by the Academic Senate of SPMVV. Interdisciplinary Research Interdisciplinary Research leading to Ph.D. Degree may also be undertaken by the candidate either on full-time or on part-time basis with two research supervisors from two different disciplines. The candidate shall work with the guide / co-guide from the University department/ University recognized research institution. Ph.D. Degree shall be awarded to the candidate in the same subject/discipline in which she has registered.
Eligibility Criteria 1. The candidate should possess a postgraduate degree of the concerned/ related subject of any recognized University, with a second class with a minimum of 55% of marks and 50% in the case of SC/ST candidates. However, for research in Women s Studies, a candidate with a postgraduate degree in any discipline is eligible. 2. For part-time registration, the candidate should be a member of the staff of any academic/ research/ professional/ technical institution. The candidate should have a minimum work experience for a period of two years. M.Phil Programme Full-Time Research A full - time research scholar carries out full - time research for a minimum period of one year, putting in 75% of attendance, without taking up any other assignment. However, the candidates may work in the Research Projects of the respective supervisors as Junior Research Fellows, Project Fellows etc. Part-Time Research A part - time research scholar carries out part - time research while discharging her duties associated with her regular job in a recognized academic / research / professional/ technical/ relevant institution. The candidate must work for her M.Phil. for a minimum of two years, putting in a minimum attendance of two summer vacations / two months in SPMVV. NOTE: Research for M.Phil shall be carried out under the supervision of single internal guide only. No external guides are allowed. Eligibility Criteria i) A postgraduate degree of any recognized University, with Second class with a minimum of 55% of marks and 50% for SC / ST candidates in the concerned subject. However, for research in Women s Studies, a candidate with a postgraduate degree in any discipline is eligible.
ii) For part- time registration, the candidate should be a member of the staff of any recognized academic/ research/ professional/technical institution. The candidate should have a minimum work experience for a period of two years. II. REGULATIONS FOR REGISTRATION INTO M.Phil./Ph.D. Programme 1. Students seeking admission into M.Phil/Ph.D. programme should appear for an entrance test (RESET) to be conducted by the University at Tirupati. The entrance test will be conducted for 100 marks. Medium of writing the test is English except for Telugu Studies. The student should get a minimum 50% of marks in the entrance test to get the eligibility and for SC/ST students the minimum marks will be 45%. Mere qualifying in the entrance test alone does not give guarantee for admission. 2. Candidates qualified in UGC/CSIR test or any other National/State level test, FDP (UGC) candidates are exempted from the Entrance Test. 3. Allocation of the seats shall be made as per the six point formula of the Andhra Pradesh Educational Institution Regulation of Admission Order 1974 in the ratio of 42:36:22 in respect of Costal Andhra, Telangana and Rayalaseema regions respectively. Reservation for SC/ST/BC and other categories shall be followed as per the rules. 4. Admission to 85% of the available seats shall be reserved in favour of the local regions as mentioned above. The remaining 15% seats shall be unreserved. 5. The candidate has to attend the interview. At the time of interview the candidate should submit the theme of her proposed research topic along with the research design. 6. Preference will be given to candidates qualified in UGC/CSIR or any National/State level test and the admission will be based on the rank obtained in the relevant examination.
7. Irrespective of the Ph.D. admission notification and vacancy available, research fellowship holder shall be admitted. The admission shall be adjusted against the vacancy as and when arises. 8. However RESET is common for both M.Phil and Ph.D IV. PARTICULARS OF ENTRANCE TEST 1. Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam Research Entrance Test (SPMVV RESET- 2012) will be held on 01-09-2012 at 10.00 a.m. at Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati. For Women s Studies, the test will be at 2.00 p.m.on 01-09-2012. This Research Entrance Test is common for both M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes in the concerned discipline. 2. The test will be of 3 hours duration for 100 marks. The students have to answer five essay type questions out of eight. For the Computer Science and Business Management the test will be based on objective type questions with a duration of 1 ½ hours. 3. The syllabus for the entrance test can be obtained from The Dean of Examinations, SPMVV, Tirupati. 4. All eligible candidates have to collect hall tickets from the Chief Superintendent of the University Examinations, Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati directly two hours before the Examination on 01-09-2012. 5. No candidate will be admitted into the examination hall without Hall Ticket. 6. The Hall Ticket should be retained carefully and produced at the time of admission. 7. Candidates will not be allowed into the examination hall if they are late by more than 15 minutes after the commencement of the test. 8. Candidates have to stay in the examination hall at least for 60 minutes from the commencement of the test. 9. Any correction or overwriting of the hall ticket number on the answer
booklet has to be attested by the invigilator. Otherwise the answer script will not be valued. 10.Resorting to any kind of unfair means at the time of the test or taking part in any act of impersonation will be viewed seriously. 11.Candidates should use only ink/ball pen with blue/black ink. V. APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION INTO M.Phil./Ph.D. PROGRAMME Candidates qualified in SPMVV RESET-2012 and those who have passed NET/JRF/SLET/GATE test will receive the application for admission into M.Phil/Ph.D. programme soon after the publication of the results.
