Resident Spotlight Bernice Bun N. was born to Martin and Bertha on November 29, 1922 in Zeeland, MI. She had one older brother. Bernice attended school in Zeeland and Noordeloos. She left school after the tenth grade and helped out at home until she was old enough to get her first job in the Vinegar Bottling Dept. at Heinz. Bernice met Foster at church. They were engaged before Foster left to join the war effort, and they married in 1945 when he returned home. They have a son and daughter. Foster worked as a carpenter and eventually built a new home for his family in Zeeland. Bernice worked as an aide in a nursing home, and then at Herman Miller when her children were in school. Bernice decided that she wanted to go back to school. She attended classes at night for two years, and graduated when she was 55 years old. The school said she could take any class she wanted for free, and she choose an art class. Bernice excelled at painting! She painted for family and friends, and has some beau- Bernice Bun N. tiful pieces of her work in her apartment. Foster and Bernice were very involved at 1st Christian Reformed Church in Zeeland. They both taught Sunday School and catechism, and Foster served as an elder for many years. Bernice volunteered at Zeeland Hospital. She knit and donated hundreds of hats for newborns. Bernice also knitted slippers for her four grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, and crocheted many purses. When they retired, they enjoyed taking bus tours to California and most of the National Parks. Foster and Bernice moved to Sheldon in 2015. Foster passed away and Bernice returned home. In February, 2017 Bernice decided to make Sheldon her home. She enjoys reading, working on puzzles, playing Bingo, attending music programs, and spending time with her family. Thank you, Bernice, for sharing part of your life with us. We are glad to get to know you!

Department Spotlight Nancy S....18 years Theresa O....15 years Brittany D...3 years Megan C....3 years Hello! For those of you who don t know me, my name is Megan C. I have been working at Sheldon Meadows for three years now, 1 year as a resident aide, and two years as a Medtech. Some exciting news about me is that I am a newlywed! My husband and I got married on June 30, 2017, right here in Hudsonville. He is a teacher at Jenison International Academy. He teaches all subjects for his middle school students on the computer. We met in downtown Grand Rapids, one of the reasons I fell in love with the city! My husband is from Jenison, MI and I grew up on the east side of the state, on an island thirty minutes south of Detroit called Grosse Ile. It was a very small town and a great place to grow up. I have three younger siblings, one sister, and two brothers. My sister is studying Dentistry at the University of Detroit Mercy. One of my brothers is a tattoo artist in Phoenix, AZ., and my youngest brother is a marine, and is currently stationed in Spain. I always look for- Staff Anniversaries Thank you for all you do!! I moved to West Michigan in 2008 to attend Grand Valley State University. I studied health sciences and Spanish while I was there and graduated with a Bachelors of Science. I hope to someday go back to school to become a nurse. While working at Sheldon Meadows I have learned to work with and help people. When I am not at work, I love going to the movies. Popcorn has to be one of my favorite snacks, hands down. I also enjoy spending time with friends, and going to the beach in the summer. I love to dance! At GVSU I was part of a Latin dance group called Sabroisisim. We did all types of dances, salsa, merengue, rueda, bachata, etc. My husband is a huge sports fan and we enjoy watching the Detroit Lions and Tigers play. When we can, we travel to Detroit to catch a game. Well, that s just a little about me I m here just about every day so feel free to stop by A/B halls and say HI!

Administrator Notes We have rolled into another fall with the promise of crisp air and crunchy leaves in our future. September is a big month at Sheldon Meadows! One September 22nd we will be having a great 20th anniversary celebration! It will be Friday September 22nd from 2p-4p. We hope to see many of you there. In addition, September 25-October 13th we will have our satisfaction surveys sent out. We appreciate the time you take to complete these.
