Don t leave high school regretting everything that you missed out on. H.S. is what you make of it. Graduation Requirements The Class of 2018 and beyond: English 4 Social Science 3 Mathematics 4* Science 3** Fine Arts 1 Physical Education 0.5*** Health 0.5 Electives 5**** Credit Hours 21 *The mathematics requirements must include Algebra II. **Science units must include 1 unit of physical sciences, 1 unit of life sciences and 1 unit of advanced study. ***Students who, during high school (grades 9-12), participate in interscholastic athletics, band or cheerleading for two full seasons may be exempt from the physical education requirement. ****1 credit must include technology

Graduation Requirements In addition to the aforementioned course/credit requirements, the following requirements must be met for graduation: 1. Earn the required number of points, unless exempted, on the tests required by the State Board of Education to graduate. The Classes of 2018 and beyond will participate in end of course exams. 2. Fulfill community service requirements (Students must complete at least 20 hours of community service projects prior to graduation.) 3. Paid Fees/fines 4. Cleared discipline obligation 5. Passing all classes necessary/required for graduation

Grading System Letter Grade Determination The percentage scale listed below determines the letter grade on the report cards. 100-93 = A 76-73= C 92-90 = A- 72-70 = C- 89-87 = B+ 69-67 = D+ 86-83 = B 66-63 = D 82-80 = B- 62-60 = D- 79-77 = C+ 59-0 = F

Grading Policy In order to pass a semester course, students must pass 2 of the 3 grading opportunities (quarter, quarter and exam). In order to pass a year course, students must pass 3 of the 5 grading opportunities (4 quarters and the exam), in addition 2 of the 3 passing grades must be in the 2 nd semester of the course. Year Course Grade Determination Each nine-week period and the final exam will count 20%. Semester Grade Determination Each nine-week period will count 40%. Final Exams will be given and count 20% of the student s final grade. Use ProgressBook to monitor your grades and assignments on a regular basis!

Grade Placement All students should carry a minimum of six (6) credits. Students should carry more than 6 credits to take full advantage of the curriculum. General Building Rules Report to all classes on time and be prepared. Display appropriate behavior at all times. Follow the Dress Code at all times. No food is to leave the cafeteria. Students must have their student ID with them at ALL times. You are responsible for your personal belongings! Don t bring anything to school that is valuable or irreplaceable. Purchase a combination lock for your gym locker!

Arrival/Dismissal High School students are not permitted to enter or exit through the elementary and/or intermediate school High School students should be dropped off at the front and/or back of the high school Students are not permitted in the building before 7:30 A.M. or after 3:30 P.M. (unless with appropriate supervision)

Arrival/Dismissal DISMISSAL: Cars WILL NOT be permitted in the front lot between 2:30 P.M. 3:30 P.M. Students that walk home should exit through the front doors or back doors of the high school only Students may be picked up behind the high school (Do not block drive to Southwood) or on the streets across from the high school (please obey city traffic laws) Back parking lot: Please enter and stay to the right, exit toward the north

Dress Code Tank Tops will not be permitted at any time. All shirts must have a sleeve that covers the shoulder. Pajama pants are not permitted. Proper underclothing must be worn and should not be visible. Skirts and shorts must be of an appropriate length. Clothing with printing that fails to meet the standards of good taste is not permitted. (i.e. alcohol, drug or cigarette logos, inappropriate words or gestures, gang identification and logos, slogans or pictures promoting violence or death) Administration has the right to determine appropriate attire.

Brooklyn High School Safety and Security Updates: Students will not be permitted to carry bags throughout the school day. Book bags, computer bags, large purses, etc. must be stored in the student s locker during the school day. Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap can be carried Clutch bags may not be larger than 4.5 X 6.5

Electronic Devices Students are permitted to use electronic devices during regular school (7:50-3:11) hours for educational purposes. Students must have permission from an administrator or a teacher and must have completed the proper paperwork. These items include but are not limited to: cell phones, ipods, MP3 players, CD players, digital cameras and video cameras. Devices should NOT be used for playing games, texting, social media, taking video or pictures Earbuds and headphones are not permitted in the hallways.

Cafeteria Rules 1. Follow directions the first time they are given. 2. Walk into and out of the cafeteria 3. Talk in a normal tone of voice, no shouting 4. Food lines are to be orderly, no cutting or saving places. 5. Students are expected to clean their tables and the surrounding floor area and will be asked to remain until the task is completed. 6. Students are not to leave until dismissed by the cafeteria supervisors. 7. Food and drinks are to be eaten only in the cafeteria.

Bullying/Harassment Harassment, intimidation, or bullying means any intentional written, verbal, graphic, or physical acts, including electronically transmitted (i.e. Internet, e- mail, cellular telephone, personal digital assistant) that a student or group of students exhibits toward another particular student(s).

Hall Sweeps BHS Staff will periodically conduct hall sweeps to ensure students arrive at their destinations on time. During a hall sweep, a building announcement will be made to staff to close their doors and not permit students who are late to enter class. Students caught in a hall sweep will be asked to go to a designated area. Staff members will walk halls to ensure no student is out without a pass. A Wednesday School will be assigned to students caught in the hall sweep. Make sure you ALWAYS have a pass while in the halls!

Disciplinary Options For Misconduct (not necessarily in order) Progression of consequences will increase by frequency and seriousness of violations. Administration reserves the right to assign consequences due to the severity and frequency of the offense.
