CHIEF EDITOR S MESSAGE ST. THOMAS COLLEGE (Autonomous) THRISSUR Affiliated to University of Calicut www.stthomas.ac.in stcthrissur@gmail.com Ph: 0487-2420435 Fax: 0487-2421510 Editorial Board Chief Editor Dr. Jenson P.O. Principal Executive Editor Sri. Sanjo Jose Librarian Members Fr. Dr. Martin K.A. Dr. George Alex Dr. Francy Kakkassery Layout and Design Sri. Joyson O.J. Photography Sri. Raju C.V. We witnessed many historic occasions at St. Thomas during last six months. Among them, the Graduation Ceremony of postgraduate students, marked the ceaseless endeavour of the Management, the Staff and the students of St.Thomas in bringing out a transformation in higher education. The graduation ceremony is not a formality alone; it informs the academia about their duties and commitments to the institution in particular and to the society in general. Our Autonomous status has increased our loyalty to adhere to the vision and mission of the founders of this tower of learning. Evidently, University Grants Commission has acknowledged our talents and capabilities as an Autonomous College by identifying us as CPE; now we are College with Potential for Excellence. The main hindrance to our College s further progress and success is the constraints of space in the present campus; now the College looks forward to its upcoming Centenary Campus in Cheroor. The foundation stone for the Centenary Block was laid in the presence of various dignitaries. The visit of Ambassador of Portugal to launch the book of our faculty was another landmark in the history of the College. These events were made possible by the whole hearted cooperation and support of all the stakeholders of the institution. I dedicate this issue of the Chronicle to the memories of the forefathers who had founded this institution with a great vision. EXECUTIVE EDITOR S NOTE Dr. P.O. Jenson (Principal) Bygone six months were eventful for St. Thomas'. The first Graduation Ceremony of the College was held on 16 th August in which 183 students were awarded with Postgraduate Degrees. Dr. K. Mohammed Basheer, Vice Chancellor and Dr. V.V. Georgekutty, Controller of Examinations, both of University of Calicut, along with our Patron, Mar Andrews Thazhath and the Manager, Mar Raphael Thattil blessed the students and conferred with their degrees. Another event was the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Centenary Block in the Cheroor Campus held on 1 st July which was blessed by the presence of our spiritual fathers, political leaders like Adv. V. S. Sunil Kumar, our MLA and the Minister for Agriculture, the heads of educational inistitutions in the region and various other stakeholders. On 21 st April, the College was conferred with the status of College with Potential for Excellence, which inspire all of us to go beyond Autonomy. As the Executive Editor of this issue, I am proud to present you a brief sketch of the events and achievements of the College in next few pages. Sanjo Jose (Librarian) 2
