Edition Number 33 5 th June 2015 Dear Parents/Carers, The Friday Letter Cardinal Wiseman Catholic Technology College Email: enquiry@cardinalwiseman.net Web site: www.cardinalwiseman.net Tel: 0121 360 6383 Team Wiseman Complete the Great Midlands Fun Run

On a rainy Sunday in Sutton Coldfield the team from Cardinal Wiseman took on the Great Midlands Fun Run. It was with a mixture of both trepidation and excitement that the team of pupils and staff lined up on the start line, along with 7000 other entrants (including 83 dogs), to begin the race at 11.10am. Despite the blustery conditions the team were cheered on along the route by family, friends, teachers and the Friends of Cardinal Wiseman PTA group. I am so proud of all the pupils and staff who took part in the race and helped to raise money for such a worthy cause: All the money raised will be donated to Saint Vincent de Paul Society, which works to tackle poverty in the local area. A special mention has to be given to Mrs Barnes who finished first out of all the teachers and Jack Steele who finished first out of all the pupils. I would like to thank the pupils, parents and staff who came to support our team. There is no stopping Team Wiseman now, and next year we re aiming to enter an even bigger team in the run. Edwards, Assistant Headteacher. Open Evening Wednesday 24th June 2015 5pm to 7pm Please note that we are holding an Open Evening on Wednesday 24 th June. This is primarily for pupils and parents of pupils in Year 5 to come and see our wonderful school and many pupils from years 8-10 will be asked by their teachers to be ambassadors at this important event. We are also going to invite all parents and carers of our current year 7 students to come and have a tour of the school with their child. Letters with additional information about this will be sent next week.

Then Sings My Soul On the evening of Wednesday 3 rd June, thirteen students from year 9 and 10 headed to St Dunstan s Catholic Church in Kings Heath. The Soli House team hosted the evening which was called Then sings my soul. This was an amazing opportunity for our students to grow in faith and make new friends. We were joined by other young people from around Birmingham to lift our voices in praise of God. The Soli team are dedicated to bringing the message of Christ and His Church to schools throughout the Archdiocese. The evening consisted of games and activities, talks, music and prayer. We all had a great evening and we are looking forward to more events like this. Thomas Lafferty- We have recently just visited Soli House, so it was great to see all the team again. We all had a great evening, playing games, praying and singing. We were reminded of our wonderful year 10 retreat. Leon Sullivan - It was a chance for us to connect with God. I liked it because it helped me understand my faith. Richard Uwagboe - Last night gave me an opportunity to make new friends and grow in confidence. It was also nice to see other students like me who were interested in their faith. I would like to go on many other trips like this in the future. Megan Flores and Shannon Darby- It was amazing to see the Soli House team again, it put a big smile on our faces. Exciting times! As Year 11 leave us I would like to thanks our retiring Head girl, Bethany Mallet and Head boy, Matthew Jeffries and their deputies, Krystal Ramdeen and Joshua Perlata. They have been superb ambassadors for our school and I am very proud of them. This week staff will be voting for our new head girl and boy and their deputies. All staff have vote and choose from the current year 10 Prefects. They will be looking for our new leaders to represent the students and staff of our wonderful school. I will share the results next week. Have a wonderful weekend. Yours sincerely, Christina Stewardson
