THE DALY COLLEGE Annual Exam Syllabus 2016-17 Class VIII CIE Subject English Annual Examination Syllabus The test paper will follow the pattern of Cambridge Checkpoint 1 Exam. The paper shall include the following sections: PAPER 1: NON-FICTION Duration 1 hour, 7 minutes; Total marks: 50 1. SECTION 1: READING Reading an unfamiliar passage, in the contexts of 1) Travel brochures 2) Travelogues * Questions based on reading for gist * Questions based on reading for meaning (of words or phrases) * Questions based on reading for specific detail 2. SECTION 2: WRITING (Letters Job or Leave Application) a) Writing to persuade to exhibit the following skills: * Purpose and audience * Planning * Beginning, middle and end * Coherence of thought and ideas 3. SECTION 3: GRAMMAR, PUNCTUATION AND VOCABULARY * Simple, Compound and Complex sentences * Use of comma, colon, semi-colon in Simple, Compound and Complex sentences * Identifying Phrases and Clauses * Types of Clauses: Noun, Relative, Adverbial * Sentence Analysis(Identifying Form) * Spelling and vocabulary lists 11 to 15 PAPER 2: FICTION DURATION: 1 hour, 7 minutes; Total Marks: 50 1.
