Obituary for Rosezella Geneva James Hooker Rosezella Geneva James was born to Lilly and George James on May 15, 1919. She had three brothers Charles Jones, Fitzhugh Jones, Freddie Jones, and one sister, Georgiana T. Starnes. Rosezella was a loving Mother, Mother-in-law, Sister, Sister-in-law, Godmother, Grandmother (affectionately known as GaGa), Great Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend. She attended school in Louisa County, Virginia. At an early age, Rosezella gave her life to Christ. She was baptized at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, where she remained a member over the years. On December 23, 1937, Rosezella married Floyd Allen Hooker in Richmond, VA, and from their union they were blessed with two wonderful children, Merlyn Louis and Carolyn Lee. In 1942, Floyd and Rosezella moved to New York City, and on August 8, 1972, Floyd made his transition to be with the Lord. Rosezella remained in New York City until she retired from Applicator Brush Company in 1981. Later that year, Rosezella decided to leave New York and move to Arlington, Virginia with her daughter, Carolyn, and her grandson, Raegan, during his early school years. Rosezella had always dreamed of building a house and moving back to Montpelier. So in 1989, she decided to make her dream a reality and built her home (Gaga s Place) on Route 631, Montpelier, VA. She lived there until she was called home on Thursday, February 25, 2016. Rosezella loved to travel. Over the years, she visited places including Hawaii, Mexico, Bermuda, Canada, Jamaica, Grand Canyon, Cape Cod, Florida, and California. She also had a passion for collecting refrigerator magnets from her travels and friends and family would bring them back for her from their travels as well. To cherish her memories, she leaves to her son Merlyn Louis, daughter-in-law Evelyn Hooker of Fremont, CA; daughter Carolyn Lee Hairston of Montpelier, VA; three grandchildren, Pamela (Robert) Holland of Pleasanton, CA; Chemene (Michael) Hooker-Henry of Richmond, CA; and Raegan Allen Hooker-Hairston of Arlington, VA. She also leaves four great-grandchildren Jamirr Holland, Jevon Holland, Gabriella Vasquez Hooker, and Jada Holland. Her brother and sister-in-law, Charles (Dorothy) Jones of Jacksonville, FL; one aunt Margaret Winston of Montpelier, VA; sister-in-law Betty Jones of Montpelier, VA; dedicated Caregiver Jetta Pryor, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Rosezella (GaGa) touched each and everyone s life with a smile. She was honest, straightforward, and didn t bight her tongue or mince her words. If she said it, she meant it! She will be missed but she has gone to join the family party in heaven. Page 2
