Longmeadow 3 March 2017 Newsletter Message from the Headteacher Well! We have had a fabulous Book Week. Our dress-up day was very successful, thanks to all you parents for supporting. Even school lunch was themed! Many staff have worked very hard for quite a while to prepare for the week. There has been a tremendous amount of really enjoyable and high quality work from using one book as a prompt. This photo is some of the Year 1 children who wrote letters similar to those in The Day the Crayons Quit; their letters are on the last pages of the newsletter for you to enjoy. Clearly, Writing Pencil is not happy to be chewed! The story has sparked lots of great conversations about conflict resolution. Classes have visited each other to share and enjoy reading, our Librarian has read the sequel to all children, and every classroom door has been illustrated to represent a different story. Do pop in to see if you have a moment. The children s scores were added together to give an overall score. A representative from Sporting Futures visited school to announce the winners and present trophies to the winning year groups. I am delighted to report that Year 4 came 1st, Year 6 came 1st and Year 5 came 2nd. This is out of all the schools in Stevenage and is a fantastic result. Well done to everyone who took part! Book Week The children have enjoyed sharing books and reading together. It was great to see everyone dressed up as crayons or their favourite crayon colour. The children have thoroughly enjoyed reading The Day the Crayons Quit. Thank you for all the Extreme Reading photos; please continue to send them in. If your child has chosen to take part in the Readathon please return your sponsorship money to us by Friday 28 April. Happy Reading!!!!
