The School of Distance Education The School of Distance Education (SDE) was established by Kannur University vide Order No. Acad/A1/CDE/6034/2001 dated 22.05.2002 with the objective of providing opportunities to the learners from Kasaragod, and Kannur districts and the Mananthavady Thaluk of Wayanad district for pursuing higher studies, who are otherwise deprived of it. It continues to fulfil the prime responsibility of providing education at the door step for those who are unable to access formal education. The School of Distance education started functioning with B.Com Degree Course in the year 2002-03. Presently, we offer 17 different Courses/Programmes of which 10 are under-graduate courses, 5 are post-graduate courses and the remaining 2 are certificate courses. The total number of students enrolled in SDE during 2002-03, the year in which it was established, was only 32 and since then it has increased to 34752 in 2015-16. All the Programmes/Courses offered are approved by UGC, Distance Education Bureau, New Delhi. The method of instruction includes printed study material in Self Learning Mode, Personal Contact Programme, Orientation Programme, Dissertations/Projects in selected courses. It also provides various other students support services such as Counseling of students, guidance from qualified and experienced teachers. The Staff of SDE of Kannur University are committed to put all efforts to transform the centre into one of the leading distance education centres in the country. Students are advised to take the maximum advantage of the Personal Contact Programmes and self instructional materials which are made available to them by SDE with the help of Course Coordinators and experienced and committed Teachers. Pre-scheduled online admission, conduct of Examination and publication of results in time, Orientation Programme for the first year registrants; Personal Contact Programmes and Arts Festival for all are special feature of the School of Distance Education.

Additional PG Degree:- Candidates who have been awarded M Sc / MA Degree of Kannur University or other University which recognized as equivalent to the Degree of Kannur University shall be permitted to appear another MA previous and final year Examinations subject to undergoing a further Course of study for a period of not less than two academic years through the School of Distance Education.
